Chapter 236 What is Our Relationship?
Rosalind didn't catch the exact words flickering on the screen but saw a jumble of characters.
"Raymond, aren't you gonna answer the phone?"
Raymond took the drink offered by the government official, not even batting an eye.
"Spam call."
"Oh."
Rosalind was a bit skeptical; she could've sworn she saw a name on the contact list.
But right then, the other officials at the table were pushing Raymond to drink.
"Mr. Montague, you gotta try this; it's a Southern specialty."
Raymond thanked them, took a sip, and threw out a few compliments.
The vibe was great, and everyone was chatting about the project.
Rosalind, though, felt like Raymond had gotten a bit colder compared to earlier.
After a few rounds, he unbuttoned a couple of buttons and mentioned some new additions to the project.
The officials had no objections and even offered to add some new perks.
Midway through the meal, Raymond headed to the restroom in the villa.
Since the dining room was on the first floor, the restroom was too.
As soon as he turned the corner, he saw someone standing at the restroom door and raised an eyebrow.
Selena swore she wasn't waiting there on purpose; she had been at the villa entrance.
Because the servants were moving potted plants at the entrance, she helped move them inside and took the chance to wash her hands.
The restroom here was unisex, so she was standing at the door just as Raymond was about to go in.
"Raymond."
Raymond just looked at her quietly.
A few seconds later, he walked past her, went inside, turned on the faucet, and leisurely washed his long fingers.
Because of this leaning motion, a section of his cold, fair wrist bone was exposed.
Selena stood behind him, seeing his indifference, and found it hard to speak.
She waited until he finished washing his hands, grabbed a tissue to wipe his fingertips, and then turned to look at her.
"Is there something you need?"
Having come this far, Selena knew retreating was not an option.
"Among the officials drinking with you, my cousin had a conflict with his son. Could you say a few words to him?"
After saying this, Selena felt a bit lacking in confidence.
Because she could sense that since last night, Raymond had become much colder.
Sure enough, he spoke expressionlessly, "What is our relationship?"
His voice was low and slow, and as he spoke, he adjusted the sleeve of his gray suit.
"What kind of relationship makes you think I can help you again and again?"
In other words, she crossed the line.
Selena lowered her eyes, feeling a bit embarrassed.
Probably because she knew Raymond was her nominal husband, they had spent a night together and kissed three times, which gave her the illusion that she could make requests.
But now Raymond's words woke her up.
"Sorry. My request was too much."
She smiled, raised her eyes, and looked directly into his eyes without avoiding them.
"We are n an interior designer-client thing, and I always keep that in mind."
Raymond looked at her face, his eyes darkening, and his lips pressed into a straight line.
Selena sensed the coldness from him intensifying, probably not too happy to see her, so she obediently stepped back.
"It's getting late, so I won't disturb your socializing."
After saying that, she left without hesitation.
The socializing continued over there, and everyone was a bit tipsy.
Rosalind felt that after returning from the restroom, Raymond seemed to be in an even worse mood.
