Chapter 126 Too Stubborn

Raymond frowned, feeling once again that Selena was just too stubborn.

"Alright," he said.

Selena let out a sigh of relief, glad he wasn't making things harder for her.

"Okay, I'll definitely be there on time."

After spraying some pain relief on her ankle, it felt a bit better. She then tidied up the medical kit and put it back in the hallway cabinet.

As she closed the door, she said, "Mr. Montague, you should get some rest."

Raymond's face immediately turned colder. It was a weird, stifling feeling.

He loosened his tie, hoping it would help shake off the strange emotions.

But loosening the tie tugged at the wound on his hand, making him wince a bit.

She was just a woman he barely knew; no need to care.

Selena didn't care what Raymond thought. She was in a rush to get to Ridgefield to deal with Brian's family matters.

But what really ticked her off was that Jacob wasn't there waiting for her.

Selena was so mad her scalp tingled, but she was helpless when it came to Jacob.

She spent the whole day in Ridgefield, first comforting Erin by saying Megan would be out in a few days, then going to the hospital to pay the bills. After Brian's emergency treatment was done, she dragged her exhausted self back to Ashbourne Manor in Silver Bay City.

But what really weighed on her mind was the eight million dollars Raymond wanted back in a week.

Selena rubbed her temples. Without time to rest, she saw it was already six in the evening and hurried to start making soup.

But she was so tired she almost cut her hand while chopping ingredients.

Fiona watched nervously from the side. "Ms. Fair, just tell me what soup you want, and I'll make it."

Selena, barely able to keep her eyes open, had no choice but to let go of the knife. "Chicken soup, Fiona, thanks."

Even though she promised Raymond she'd make the soup herself, she hadn't slept all night and had driven back alone today. She could fall asleep standing up.

Plus, Erin had cried all night, making her head pound, and when Brian came out of the emergency room, he cried too.

Selena felt helpless and didn't want to tell them she had met Jacob.

She didn't want Brian and Erin to know that Jacob didn't care about their lives; it would only make them more upset.

The soup simmered for two hours. Selena didn't dare to sleep. Once it was ready, she packed it in a pink thermos and headed straight to the hotel.

Seeing her like this, Fiona couldn't help but smile. "Ms. Fair, who is this for?"

"Mr. Montague." Selena didn't plan to lie and had nothing to hide.

Fiona's face lit up with a smile, thinking that Raymond and Selena's relationship had finally taken a step forward.

As soon as Selena left, Fiona couldn't help but call William, telling him that Selena had gone to deliver soup to Raymond.

William was very pleased. Raymond had been injured for Selena, and now Selena was bringing him soup. Wouldn't having a great-grandchild be just around the corner?

"Raymond has finally come to his senses. I knew it; anyone who meets Selena would like her," William said.

Fiona also liked Selena's personality—unassuming, hardworking, and ambitious.

Both of them hung up the phone, satisfied.

At this moment, Selena had arrived at the hotel. As soon as she entered the luxurious lobby, she saw a familiar face—Jane.

Jane was holding onto Reid's arm.

Selena wanted to pretend she didn't see them and walk straight past, but they ran into each other, making it impossible to ignore.

Reid, focused on Jane, hadn't noticed Selena yet. He was holding Jane's waist, and their relationship didn't seem quite normal.

Jane's eyes widened when she saw Selena and tried to push Reid away, but he only held her closer.

"We've already had sex, so why pretend now? Don't you want to work with me?" Reid said.

Jane felt humiliated, especially with Selena there, making it even more embarrassing.

Selena smirked, pressed the elevator button, and didn't want to get involved.

She had worked with Reid for three years and thought he was different from others, but it turned out he was just better at hiding it.

Jane probably already knew that Selena had fallen out with Reid, so she was eager to please him. After all, Reid's renovation team was one of the best in the industry.

As long as Jane whispered a few words in Reid's ear, he would never work with Selena again and might even join other renovation teams in boycotting Selena's projects.

Jane had only intended to win Reid over behind Selena's back, but being caught by Selena herself was extremely awkward.
