Chapter 221 Would You Like an Orange?
"Aunt, it's super late. Why are you still out here? Didn't Jacob already head home? Why isn't he out here helping you?"
Otherwise, she wouldn't be getting pushed around by some middle-aged guy.
Erin's cheeks flushed a bit, and she quickly grabbed Selena's hand.
"Selena, come back with me. Your room's still there. We really owe you for what happened last time, and you even got Jacob to come back."
She dodged Selena's question.
Selena sighed, seeing her struggling to push a cart full of fruit by herself.
She quickly went to help push from behind.
"Did Jacob patch things up with his wife after he got home?"
"No, they had a big fight. But it was Jacob's fault, so I made him write an apology letter. She's probably gonna forgive him."
Selena didn't say anything. As they pushed the cart past the courtyard, she spotted Raymond on the steps.
Raymond wasn't in a suit this time, just a white shirt, chatting with John beside him.
They had just arrived and were about to attend a dinner organized by some bigwigs.
It was already 8 PM, and people were waiting.
As Selena helped Erin push the cart, she turned her head and met his gaze.
He raised an eyebrow slightly, his eyes falling on the pile of fruit in the cart.
There were oranges, grapes, and bananas, all neatly arranged.
Selena thought she must be mistaken; otherwise, why would she see Raymond in Ridgefield?
She straightened up and saw him under the courtyard light.
He no longer had the cold and serious demeanor he had at the Montague Group. His shirt sleeves were rolled up, suggesting that the upcoming social event wouldn't require too much formality, so he seemed quite relaxed.
"Raymond?"
She called out, feeling a bit dazed.
Raymond stood on the steps, while Selena was a few steps below. After thinking for a long time, she finally managed to say, "Want an orange?"
After saying that, she regretted it and quickly waved her hand, wanting to say she was just joking. After all, how could Raymond eat such cheap fruit?
But Raymond came down the steps and actually took an orange from the cart.
His fingers were so long and perfect that they made the orange look a bit ugly.
Holding the orange in his palm, he asked, "When did you get here?"
"Not long ago."
Erin, standing nearby, felt her presence diminish instantly upon seeing Raymond and was too scared to speak.
Seeing a few leaders in formal attire waiting not far away, she realized this was the big shot whose car had broken down last time.
Ordinary folks like them couldn't afford to mess with him.
But now, Selena was talking to such a person so naturally.
Erin quickly grabbed a tote bag, silently filled it with oranges, and handed it to Raymond.
She was the least articulate and didn't know what to say.
Raymond politely said, "One is enough, thank you."
Erin was a bit overwhelmed and didn't know how to respond, so she just looked at Selena.
Selena hadn't expected him actually to come over and take an orange. Seeing that others were waiting, she reminded him. "Your back injury hasn't healed yet. You shouldn't drink later."
Raymond nodded and took the orange over to the leaders.
The leaders were talking to him, and he nodded slightly.
Selena continued to push the cart. "Let's get these fruits home. It's very late."
Erin finally snapped out of it, still shaken.
"That guy has such a strong presence. I didn't dare to speak in front of him."
"He may have a high status, but he doesn't throw his weight around. What happened last time was caused by my sister-in-law."
Erin was just quietly holding onto the cart handle.
In the distance, Raymond held the orange and heard one of the leaders say, "This is locally grown in Ridgefield. Mr. Montague, you should try it."
