Chapter 1394 Unclear About Who They Are

The same tone as always.

Ann's last flicker of hope was extinguished completely. She couldn't speak, feeling only the burning shame on her face—part pain, part humiliation.

Emily, of course, couldn't resist twisting the knife.

She snapped, "Did you hear what Paul said? Get out now, or I'll have someone throw you out."

Ann left without looking at anyone, head down as she walked away.

Emily's contemptuous snort followed her. "Some women just can't see themselves clearly. They think jumping into bed twice makes them somebody. They forget what gutter they crawled out of."

She then proceeded to share Ann's humiliation with her entire circle of friends. Emily had a large social circle. Though Selena had put her in her place once, making Emily somewhat wary of her, Ann was nothing to fear.

Emily even felt she could now take out all her past frustrations with Selena on Ann instead. With a cold smile, she followed Paul's instructions and went to find Alex.

When Alex entered the hospital room, he was surprised not to see Ann.

"Where's Ann?" he asked, confused. After all, Paul had been embracing her affectionately before surgery, and she'd seemed genuinely concerned. Strange that she'd leave right after Paul woke up.

Alex didn't care for Selena, but he had a decent impression of Ann. In his view, Selena was full of schemes—she'd been Raymond's wife but insisted on playing games, making a fool of him. Ann seemed different—straightforward and honest, personally selected by Raymond to help out. Her background was undoubtedly clean.

"Why are you asking about her?" Paul's expression darkened with disgust and impatience.

He threw back the covers and headed straight for the bathroom without hesitation.

Alex stood in the doorway, noting Paul's poor color. "You seemed pretty fond of her when you couldn't remember anything."

Paul rinsed his mouth with bottled water, then straightened up and pushed past Alex.

"Come back with me. We need to talk."

Alex recognized Paul's business tone and immediately followed. The Adams family was left behind at the hospital, shocked that Paul would discharge himself without informing them. None dared object—with Paul back, the family would be under his control again.

In the car heading to his estate, Paul couldn't hold it in any longer.

He shouted, "Stop the car!"

Alex slammed on the brakes.

Paul flung open the door and retched into a nearby flowerbed. This was perhaps his most vulnerable moment ever—even his injury hadn't left him this wretched.

Alex patted his back sympathetically. "That old incident really did a number on you, didn't it? Don't tell me you're sick just remembering that kiss with Ann?"

Looking pale, Paul rinsed his mouth again before stumbling back to his mansion.

Once in his bedroom, he rushed to the bathroom and vomited again.

Alex checked his watch and waited outside. Thirty minutes later, Paul emerged from a shower, the corners of his eyes reddened from being sick.

In Alex's eyes, Paul was a man of extreme self-control—sometimes even more so than Raymond. Paul's attitude toward women was fundamentally dismissive.

Raymond, despite his tough talk, would fight to the death for someone he truly fell for.

Paul was different. The moment he found himself veering off course, he would get back on track without hesitation. There was no room for mistakes in his life. Even after sleeping with a woman, he could leave her behind without a second thought.
