Chapter 159 I Don't Want to Hear Anything About Her

Selena had blown him off a bunch of times already. Now, with dinner ready, she was stubbornly snoozing upstairs, making everyone wait.

To him, Selena was just a freeloader, living off the Montague family's generosity.

"Let's eat, no need to wait," Raymond said, his tone flat as he got up and headed to the dining table.

Fiona could tell Raymond was ticked off, so she was extra careful.

This whole thing was just going to make things worse between Raymond and Selena. She sighed, worried.

But before Selena went upstairs, she did look kinda sick. Fiona figured Selena probably didn't hear the knocking.

Fiona wanted to stick up for Selena, but Raymond cut her off, "I don't want to hear anything about her."

Raymond's eyes were calm but cold, his tone shutting Fiona up completely.

During the meal, Fiona tried to stay as invisible as possible.

Even the other servants were walking on eggshells.

Raymond ate with his usual elegance, barely touching his food. Then he went upstairs to his room.

Fiona told the servants to clear the table and left a plate for Selena.

Meanwhile, Selena had already made it to Cornerstone Construction, her current business partner.

She'd taken a nap and used some concealer, so the slap mark was barely noticeable. Meeting a business partner looking rough wouldn't have been great.

The guy in charge at Cornerstone was way more reliable than Reid. After a quick chat, they set up a dinner meeting.

Since it was a business dinner, drinks were a given. Selena had a couple and managed to wrap things up in just three hours.

She handed over the construction plans and picked out most of the basic materials.

The meeting went well, and they planned to start work in two days.

When Selena left, she didn't call a driver. She'd had a few drinks, so she called a ride service instead.

When the car pulled up at Ashbourne Manor, she paid and headed inside.

The place was unusually quiet tonight. From the moment she walked in, she felt a weird, heavy vibe.

Selena rubbed her temples. She'd talked a lot with the guy in charge and was feeling a bit dizzy.

Fiona, waiting in the living room, was surprised to see her come in from outside.

"Ms. Fair, weren't you sleeping in your room?" Fiona asked.

"I got a work call and had to go out," Selena replied.

Fiona instantly regretted not calling Selena, which had unnecessarily worsened Raymond's impression of her.

"Did you have dinner?" Fiona asked.

"I had some wine at the business dinner. My stomach's a bit off. I'll take some stomach medicine and go to sleep. Fiona, you should get some rest," Selena said.

Fiona usually didn't stay up late, but tonight, Selena had come back so late. Fiona had thought Selena was resting in her room and had planned to bring her food once she woke up, only to find out Selena had been out.

"Ms. Fair, how about a bowl of hot soup? Just leave the bowl in the sink when you're done. I'll get you the soup, and I'll put the stomach medicine and a glass of water on the table," Fiona said.

"Okay," Selena nodded.

After doing all this, Fiona yawned and went to bed.

Selena sat at the dining table, feeling like she had forgotten something, but couldn't put her finger on it.

Suddenly, there was a flash of lightning and a rumble of thunder outside. It looked like it was going to rain tonight.

After taking the stomach medicine, she didn't feel like drinking the soup anymore and put the bowl back in the kitchen.

The rain started pouring, followed by a loud clap of thunder.

Selena initially wanted to wash the bowl herself, but the thunder startled her, causing the bowl to fall and shatter on the ground.

She quickly bent down to pick up the pieces. But as she squatted, everything went dark. Only the occasional flash of lightning through the window lit up the house.

It was a power outage.

She tried to stand up and heard a man's voice from outside the kitchen. "Who's in there?"

It was Raymond's voice.

No wonder she felt like she had forgotten something. She'd been so wrapped up in her meeting that she forgot she and Raymond were both staying at Ashbourne Manor.
