Chapter 1455 Finally Letting Go
Selena saw him reaching for the money and quickly grabbed his arm, bending down herself.
"I got it," she said softly.
While wandering around the area today, she had discovered a truth: the wages for ordinary workers here were very low.
So, having a net worth of five billion dollars meant Lyle could practically walk on water on this island.
But money was the last thing she needed right now.
Five billion dollars was nothing; the card Richard had given her before she left probably had more than that.
Plus, her company assets in Silver Bay City were countless.
Emilio had no idea what she was thinking and silently continued unloading the car.
Selena patted his shoulder at that moment. "I want to acquire the Warner family's enterprise."
Emilio dropped what he was holding, thinking Selena must have been triggered by something.
Selena glanced around, identifying the most luxurious buildings.
Those high-rises were likely where the so-called elites worked, the only places with a view of the world outside the walls, though all they could see was the ocean.
She bent down, picked up the items, and walked inside.
"But I can't do it alone. I don't know the acquisition process for companies here yet, so I need to observe for a few days."
Emilio felt a warm sensation in his head, his intuition telling him Selena wasn't joking.
As they carried the items inside, a group of children in patched clothes gathered around, their eyes sparkling.
"Emilio, what did you buy? Are we having meat tonight? It smells so good."
"Smells amazing; Emilio is awesome."
Emilio patted their heads, a smile forming on his lips.
"You should thank this lady."
The children's eyes turned to Selena, looking adorable.
"Thank you, ma'am."
"Thank you, ma'am."
After having dinner with everyone, Selena was shown to a small room.
Emilio was still tidying up the room when a light rain started outside. The roof leaked, and he used a broken basin to catch the water, then went out in the rain to cover the leak.
The room was small and had a musty smell.
"Sorry, this is the only room left. It was originally used for storage."
As soon as he finished speaking, they heard the sound of mice.
Selena wasn't afraid of mice but still blocked the holes in the floor for peace of mind.
Emilio made the bed and brought out clean blankets.
"School starts tomorrow. I'll bring you the teacher's materials later. There aren't many art classes, and you have your own office at the school."
Selena nodded, sitting on the bed.
The walls here weren't soundproof; she could hear coughing outside and the children's joyful voices as they opened gifts.
Now that she had a moment to herself, she noticed how rough Emilio's hands were, clearly from years of farm work.
One of his hands was cut and bleeding.
Selena immediately brought in the first aid kit she had bought and disinfected and bandaged his wound.
Emilio looked down at her, finally speaking after a long pause, "Selena, I don't know how to repay you. I'll do my best to help you at school."
Selena tossed the used cotton swab into the trash, too tired, and rubbed her eyes.
"No need. We're just making a fair trade. Taking over your teacher's position also benefits me."
Emilio was about to say something when another bout of intense coughing came from outside.
He quickly excused himself and ran out.
Selena washed up and got into bed, still able to hear his calm, steady voice, "Teacher, how are you feeling now?"
From the moment she first saw this teacher, Selena knew she didn't have much time left, barely holding on.
Now that someone had taken over her position and Emilio and the children had support, she could finally let go.
