Chapter 24

Matthew helped Selena and, when he heard the news, his eyes widened in surprise.

"Selena's married?" Matthew asked, looking like he'd just heard the craziest thing ever.

Seeing Raymond's expression, Matthew figured Raymond was serious.

Back when Selena had just graduated college, Matthew had invited her to join his studio.

In the past three years, he'd never seen Selena get close to any guy. How could she be married?

Noticing the surprise on Matthew's face, Raymond frowned. "Let's get her inside first."

Matthew nodded and carefully helped Selena into the hospital lobby.

Raymond didn't stick around long. He'd brought Selena over because he knew he'd be spending more time with her soon.

On his way back to the Montague Group, Raymond's phone rang. It was William.

"Raymond, did you see Selena? Hasn't she gotten even more beautiful?" William's voice was weak, and he had to cough and catch his breath every few words.

"Grandpa, just stay in the nursing home and don't worry about anything else," Raymond said.

"If I really didn't have to worry, you two would have given me a grandchild by now. Selena's introverted and an artist; you're the man, can't you take the initiative?" William added.

Raymond frowned, wondering how Selena had managed to charm William back then.

Raymond wanted to argue, but William's coughing came through the phone again.

Not wanting to upset William, Raymond softened his tone, "I'll try my best."

William relaxed and sounded instantly happier.

"I'm coming back next month. While abroad, I hardly see any familiar faces, and I haven't seen Selena in a long time; I do miss her. While I'm away, make sure to take good care of her and don't let anyone bully her!" William continued.

Raymond frowned, feeling a bit annoyed.

When William first went abroad, he said he planned to retire on that island. But now, less than a year later, he was already planning to come back.

Raymond had planned to get a divorce first and then slowly work on changing William's mind.

But if William really came back next month and suddenly heard about the divorce, would he faint from the shock?

With that thought, Raymond's face darkened. He gripped the steering wheel, his brows furrowed like they were covered in frost.

The divorce couldn't happen now, at least not while William was coming back.

Not only could they not get divorced, but they also had to act like a loving couple.

Raymond figured he needed to find some time to talk to Selena in person.

At the hospital, Selena finally woke up after getting a fever-reducing shot and an IV.

She slowly opened her eyes and saw the unfamiliar, pristine white surroundings. Her brow furrowed as she tried to sit up.

Halfway up, she almost fell back from exhaustion.

Matthew, who had just returned with some water, quickly reached out to support her. "Don't move; your fever was almost 104 degrees."

Hearing his familiar voice, Selena's tense nerves slowly relaxed, but thinking about what happened before she fainted, her heart tightened again.

"Where's Mr. Montague?" Selena asked.

Matthew sighed and poured her a glass of water. "I should be asking you, how did you end up with him?"

Selena took the glass and soothed her dry throat. "I didn't get a chance to tell you, but we secured the Manston Manor deal, so the studio doesn't need to be sold for now."

Matthew was stunned and then felt a bit touched. "Well done."

Selena's throat felt better, and she heard him ask, "But when did you get married?"

Selena was caught off guard and almost choked on the water. She quickly gathered her thoughts. "It's been three years. Sorry, I never mentioned it."

"It's your personal business, so it's up to you whether to say anything. But in these three years, I've never seen your husband pick you up from work. Even today, when you fainted, he didn't show up. If Mr. Montague hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have known you were married," Matthew said.

Selena felt a bit awkward and could only repeat the excuse she had given Raymond. "My husband is busy with work."

"No matter how busy, he shouldn't neglect you like this. Give me his number; I'll call him. The doctor said you need to stay in the hospital for two days. If I have to go back to the studio, I can't leave you here alone," Matthew added.

"Matthew, it's okay," Selena responded.

Beyond their professional relationship, Matthew always treated Selena with the warmth and affection of a brother. Seeing Selena so resistant, he hesitated for a long time before finally asking, "Selena, be honest with me. Is your husband treating you badly?"

When the nurse was giving Selena an injection earlier, she had lifted her shirt a bit, and Matthew had accidentally seen the bruises on Selena's body.

They looked like they were caused by someone pinching her.
