Victoria grew up in Ridgefield. Steven's family had two sons who were pretty successful, so naturally, she leaned towards them.
When James wanted to marry Barbara, Victoria was totally against it. They even had a big fight over it, but James didn't budge.

Victoria was bossy and always pushed Barbara for more kids. Just after Barbara had given birth, she was already urging her to get pregnant again. As for the newborn Selena, she suggested they could abandon her.
After all, there were many abandoned babies in the hospital at that time.
Selena found it amusing but also wanted to know what Victoria and Arthur were here for today.

Selena was getting impatient and looked at Beatrice. "Aunt Beatrice is now the mistress of the Fair family. Aren't you going to do something?"
Beatrice had been standing quietly on the side to minimize her presence while watching Selena argue with them.
Now that she was called out, Beatrice pretended to be virtuous and looked up. "Selena, these are my parents. What can I do?"
Victoria was about to curse again, but hearing Beatrice's words made her feel much better.
Victoria said, "At least someone was reasonable. You're Beatrice, right? Now that James hasn't woken up, you're managing everything at home. This is our first visit, shouldn't you give us some money to atone for your absence of all these years? During the period when you were not in contact with Steven, Steven is also in Silver Bay City and bought a house, which was about 700 square feet, costing over $700,000 with a 30-year mortgage. James didn't support him financially back then, so you should help Steven pay off this mortgage now?"
