Chapter 373 To Err Is Human
The maid didn't know what to say, so she nodded and hurried off to fetch some tea.
Steven showed up with his two sons today. Both were in their early twenties and ready for marriage, but Steven's paycheck barely covered the mortgage, so he couldn't help them with down payments for their own places.
The older son had a girlfriend, but she bailed when she found out he couldn't buy a house.
No one wanted to live in their cramped house, especially since Steven's two sons refused to move out and pay rent.
So, all six of them were crammed into the house Steven was still paying off.
Steven's wife hadn't worked in years, staying home to raise the kids and take care of his elderly parents. Steven resented her for it and often took out his bad days at work on her, criticizing and even hitting her. The rest of the family saw it but did nothing; they were used to it.
Today, Steven only brought his two sons, his pride and joy, leaving his old and embarrassing wife behind.
James's luxurious villa left them all in awe. Steven decided to live there and planned to divorce his wife, dreaming of finding a younger, beautiful woman.
Steven jolted out of his reverie and shot up when he saw Selena walk in with a few bodyguards.
Steven said loftily, "You must be Selena. You've grown so tall. By the way, did you meet the blind date I set up for you? His family runs a small factory, which is more than enough for you."
Victoria chimed in, "That's right, Francis is very handsome. Sure, to err is human. He made mistakes in the past, but who hasn't? Selena, you're in your twenties. In Ridgefield, girls your age already have kids. If you wait a few more years until you're thirty, who will want you?"
Selena found these comments laughable. Where did these outdated ideas come from?
Steven took Selena's silence as an assent, so he breathed a sigh of relief.
"With your dad in the hospital and no man at home, even though you have a brother, he's not your biological father's son and can't fully support you. Selena, this is my eldest son, Lance, and my second son, Leonard. I suggest that James should adopt one of them so we can be closely tied and work together at the Fair Group. A harmonious family is all one can ask for."
Steven thought he made a good point, but Victoria added. "Lance and Leonard are of marriageable age and can't afford to get married. Selena, your family is so wealthy. If you could provide $1.4 million for them to buy two houses, they would be very grateful."
The incident at the hospital last time had left Victoria with a psychological shadow.
Moreover, one of the bodyguards behind Selena was the one who had tried to throw her off the building last time.
At this moment, the maid brought in a tray and placed it on a table.
Selena took a cup. Victoria thought it was for her and quickly reached out.
"Selena, it seems Francis needs to spend more time with you. Look, you're already becoming more sensible."
But Selena took a sip and looked at them coldly. "If you don't take your luggage and leave within ten minutes, I'll have the bodyguards throw it in the trash."
