Chapter 197 The Relationship Between Them Would Collapse
The moment the door clicked shut, Selena plopped down on the couch.
After Grace's torment, Selena was wiped out. Seeing Raymond's back all messed up with wounds was just the final straw.
She kept wondering when this whole charade would finally blow up, always on edge.
Raymond was burning the midnight oil in his room. With his back all messed up, lying down was out of the question, so he decided to pull an all-nighter.
When he stepped out in the dead of night, he saw Selena leaning on the couch, looking all peaceful.
Raymond frowned, thinking their night together was ancient history. After tonight, they needed to keep their distance.
Grace was right; if William found out about her, it wouldn't just mess up the studio.
Raymond stood by the table, staring at her sleeping face.
Her face was small, and when she was asleep, the usual coldness was gone, making her look delicate and sweet.
Just a bit ago, when she was on the phone with her husband, the sweetness was almost too much.
It seemed like Alex had been overthinking things. Selena had shown her loyalty to her husband plenty of times, and that night probably meant nothing to her.
After all, Selena and her husband had countless nights like that.
Raymond's breathing got all messed up again. He quickly grabbed the water cup on the table and took a sip of cold water.
But after drinking, he realized it was the cup Selena had used, with a faint pink lipstick mark on the rim.
Frowning deeply, Raymond put the cup down and went back to his room without looking back.
The next morning, when Selena woke up, she found him already sitting on the couch opposite.
Selena quickly rubbed her eyes, sat up straight, and glanced at the clock on the wall.
It was only six o'clock. Did Raymond get up this early even on his day off?
"Mr. Montague?" Her voice had that soft, just-woke-up tone.
Raymond didn't look at her, just responded with a "Hmm" and put away his documents.
Selena quickly went to the bathroom to freshen up. When she came out, she asked softly, "Mr. Montague, what do you want for breakfast? I'll bring it up for you. And how's your back? Maybe you should hit the hospital today."
Raymond opened another document and, hearing this, just said, "Whatever."
Selena then opened the door, planning to go downstairs to get breakfast.
But when she got to the hotel's buffet, she immediately saw Alice waiting there.
Her eyebrows raised, and her eyes turned cold.
Alice didn't expect to see Selena there, and a trace of embarrassment flashed in her eyes.
Why was Selena at the hotel where Raymond was staying?
Alice often waited where Raymond appeared, hoping to catch a glimpse of him and believing her sincerity could sway him.
But now, she saw Selena.
Could it be that Selena was with Raymond again?
A cold glint flashed in her eyes, but she quickly replaced it with a weak, sweet smile, asking, "Selena, were you at the hotel last night too?"
Ever since she knew about Alice's feelings for Raymond, Selena had seen through her duplicity. "Yeah."
Upon hearing this, Alice's hand tightened instantly. They must just be at the same hotel; they wouldn't sleep together.
After all, Raymond didn't show any respect to the Fair Family, and Selena was proud. Knowing how he treated the Fair Family, she wouldn't have anything to do with Raymond.
Besides, Selena probably couldn't forget that man from before, right?
Alice tried not to show her emotions, but little did she know, her thoughts were already exposed.
"Selena," Alice said, her voice low and concerned. "Mr. Montague said some harsh words to Dad. Dad's health has worsened today. Maybe you should go back and check on him? Dad called William that day, and William forced Mr. Montague to come over. Mr. Montague seemed unhappy and had a little argument with Dad."
Alice was sure that with Selena's personality, she wouldn't go to Raymond to verify this.
Moreover, Selena's relationship with James was already on thin ice. Knowing that James called William, she wouldn't communicate with him.
A hint of smugness flashed in Alice's eyes.
With just a few words, Selena and James's relationship would collapse.
