Chapter 289 Fighting Back
"Lillian," Selena's eyes were like daggers. "I've let it go because you once brought me medicine."
Lillian's face twisted, and she sneered. "Why don't you tell that to Lauren? You went after her man, so don't be shocked she's gunning for you. You're still in the homeowners' group, right? Check out how everyone's trash-talking you."
Selena hadn't joined the homeowners' group yet. But with someone like Lauren, it was probably already a hot topic. Society's tough on women; no one cares about your side of the story. People just want the drama.
When one person called you a slut, folks might not believe it. But when two or three did, everyone jumped on the bandwagon.
The homeowners would probably give her grief too. This place was a small, upscale community. A woman with a bad rep living here would drag everyone down.
Selena had to deal with not just Lauren, but the whole building's homeowners. This house wasn't worth the hassle. But it was already listed online, and no one was biting.
Selena just felt drained.
Lillian saw Selena deep in thought and thought she had scared her. "Yeah, probably no one wants to add you in. Everyone's scared you'll steal their husbands."
Selena chuckled and pulled out her phone. "You're right. Since my rep's already trashed, what's one more mark? I'll call Carter right now. He's got a few properties he wants me to design. Maybe something will spark between us."
Lillian's face turned red with anger, her fingers trembling. "You wouldn't dare!"
Selena looked at her calmly. "Why wouldn't I?"
Lillian's confidence deflated instantly. To be fair, Selena was gorgeous. Even Raymond had flirted with her, showing how good she was. If she really went after Carter, what chance did Lillian have?
Lillian suddenly felt a sense of crisis.
Selena put her phone away, her expression calm. "If I catch you pulling any more stunts, it won't just be talk."
Lillian didn't dare respond, her head lowered, fists clenched tightly. Her only leverage now was Carter, but Selena still had ties with Raymond.
Even though Olivia was back, it seemed Selena and Raymond's relationship wasn't over.
Until then, she couldn't act rashly. She had to wait for Selena to anger Olivia and Raymond before she could strike, using Carter's influence to ruin Selena's reputation.
"Lillian," Selena stared into her eyes. "I've given you a choice. If you keep messing with me, don't blame me for fighting back."
She stepped into the elevator, pressing the close button before Lillian could enter. Lillian was shaking with rage, her teeth clenched tightly.
"Bitch! Bitch!" She kicked the wall hard, only to hurt her own leg.
When she arrived at the Montague Group, her face was still sour. Seeing Raymond walk by, Lillian's eyes darted around, and she quickly called out, "Mr. Montague."
She jogged up and stood respectfully in front of him. John stood behind Raymond, who was about to head into a meeting. This receptionist seemed a bit out of line.
"Sir, there's been a woman causing trouble at the Rose Garden, accusing Selena of seducing her man. She made a scene all night, disturbing the whole building. I saw Selena with dark circles under her eyes, looking unwell. I was wondering if you could..."
The implication was if he could help Selena with this issue.
