Chapter 1377 Are You Struggling with Whether I Like You?
'Is that it?' she thought.
She had expected him to say more, to try to win her back, but he hadn't.
All he'd said was "all right," then rested his chin on his hand—adorned with two rings—and quietly watched her.
Selena felt irritated, though she couldn't quite identify why.
She even felt frustrated.
This wasn't how it was supposed to go.
She stabbed at the steak on her plate with her fork, her expression icy.
"What's wrong? Not hungry?" Raymond asked gently.
"Just leave me alone."
As soon as she said it, her brow furrowed again. Her thoughts were a jumble she couldn't sort out.
"Fine, I'll leave you alone."
After saying this, he just stared at her.
Selena felt something snap inside her. She stood up and yanked the tablecloth off in one swift motion.
The steaks, wine, and candles all crashed to the floor.
When she came to her senses, she froze in shock. What was she doing?
She glanced at Raymond, then strode away to the seventh floor.
She showered and dried her hair alone.
She tossed and turned in bed until two in the morning, but Raymond never came to bed.
Annoyed again, Selena kicked off the covers and left the bedroom to search for him.
She finally found him on the balcony, smoking. The ashtray already contained several cigarette butts. His elbow rested on the cold railing, the cigarette between his fingers glowing on and off.
Selena stood watching him for a minute before approaching.
She asked, "Why aren't you in bed yet?"
"Can't sleep."
She glanced at his left hand with the two rings, her brow furrowing. "That ring I gave back to you—are you going to give it to someone else?"
Raymond didn't look at her. "Probably."
Selena felt another surge of irritation, a heaviness in her chest that she couldn't explain given the chaos in her mind lately.
"You don't actually like me, do you?"
"Probably not."
She felt as if she'd turned to stone. After a long moment, she asked with a trembling voice, "Really?"
"Selena, tomorrow you're meeting your precious Dr. Barnes. It's the middle of the night, and you're obsessing over whether I like you or not?"
He turned around, leaning back against the railing, smiling at her.
Raymond's appearance was always captivating—he held an immense attraction for Selena, regardless of which phase of her life she was in.
"I'm just curious who's getting the ring."
The wind blew in, tousling Raymond's hair, yet even disheveled, he possessed a breathtaking beauty.
He glanced at the back of his hand. "Who knows?"
Selena took a deep breath before finally speaking, "You're so cavalier about all this, aren't you?"
He stiffened momentarily, then smiled at her again.
Selena wanted to find more words to challenge him, but her mind was too empty; she couldn't think of anything.
She took another deep breath and echoed what adults always said. "Marriage is something you should consider carefully. You can't just marry anyone on a whim."
Raymond reached out and patted her head. "Go back to bed."
"I'm talking to you. We're discussing the future. You can't just give that ring to anyone, you know? You'll regret it."
Raymond simply removed the ring from his pinky finger and held it out to her.
She suddenly felt shy, her cheeks flushing. "I couldn't possibly... I was just keeping it safe for you. When you meet the right person, you can ask for it back."
Raymond bent down, took her hand, and solemnly placed the ring on her finger.
He replied softly, "Alright."
The tension in Selena's chest instantly vanished, and she smiled brightly. "It's not that I really want it. I just think you shouldn't be so casual about these things. And I do love the design—it fits me perfectly."
Raymond chuckled quietly and sighed slightly. "Whatever you say."
