Chapter 12
Joseph was just a few steps behind her.
Outside, his bodyguards were hanging around.
Raymond, decked out in black sportswear, had one hand stuffed in his sweatpants pocket. Tall and lean, he moved with a kind of effortless grace.
He was standing at the lounge door, about to head in.
Joseph licked his lips, his eyes glued to her back. In a low voice meant only for her, he said, "Raymond's here. Aren't you gonna say hi?"
Selena took a deep breath, no time to waste, and quickly walked over.
Raymond had his hand on the door handle; just as he cracked it open, he heard footsteps and felt Selena's soft, fragrant presence behind him.
No time to argue. With some quick thinking, Selena managed to get them both inside the lounge.
Raymond's eyes went cold. "Get out."
Selena quickly locked the door, turned around, and looked at him earnestly. "Mr. Montague, I didn't mean to bother you. Can I hide here for a bit?"
Raymond didn't say a word, his eyes drifting to her knees.
Following his gaze, Selena looked down and saw the red marks on her knees had gotten worse after being exposed to hot water.
They looked like they were from some kind of... intimate position.
"I bumped my knees in the car," Selena mumbled, her face turning red, feeling a bit lost.
Raymond hadn't even asked, so why was she explaining?
"What are you doing here?" Raymond asked, looking down at her.
"Work," Selena replied.
The room went quiet.
Raymond gave her a long look, his expression unreadable, then turned and walked towards the bathroom, not asking her to leave again.
Hearing the water running, Selena averted her gaze, but she could still see his silhouette through the frosted glass.
Raymond's body was all muscle, water streaming down his chest, disappearing into places she knew all too well.
She closed her eyes and turned away.
Joseph was already gone.
With the crisis averted, Selena didn't plan to stick around.
Accidentally sleeping with Raymond was awkward enough; with a divorce on the horizon, she needed to be more careful.
When Raymond came out in a fresh suit, Selena was nowhere to be found.
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. He opened it, and a waiter handed him an iced coffee. "Mr. Montague, this is for you."
Raymond said nothing, and the waiter set the tray down and left.
He picked up a note stuck in a noticeable spot: [Mr. Montague, thanks for this time.]
It was from Selena, no signature needed.
Raymond stood there, feeling used and discarded for the second time.
And it was always Selena.
Fully dressed, he headed to the VIP lounge set up by Citibank.
Joseph was there too, puzzled to see Selena not with Raymond.
Ethan was the first to stand and shake Raymond's hand, saying, "Mr. Montague, your golf skills are like a coach's. I got a free lesson today."
Raymond shook hands lightly and slowly sat down. "Mr. Anderson, you're too kind."
Ethan patted Joseph. "This is my son, Joseph. I hope Mr. Montague can look out for him in the future."
Joseph stepped forward, feeling the weight of Raymond's presence, and instinctively extended his hand. "Mr. Montague, your wife didn't come with you?"
A flicker of confusion crossed Raymond's eyes. "Wife?"
"Didn't you two go into the lounge together?" Joseph's mind was racing, and he added, "I've always admired Ms. Cooper. I didn't expect her to be your wife."
Realizing who he meant by "wife," Raymond's eyes darkened, his face turning icy.
Selena said she didn't want to be involved, but this was her plan all along.
Raymond's face was stone-cold as he cut in, "She is not my wife."
