Chapter 125 Keep up the Act
"Mr. Montague, I saw you on that road, so I figured you must have a house over there too."
Selena felt a wave of relief wash over her when she bumped into Raymond while walking Max.
Raymond remembered that Selena's leg seemed injured, but it didn't look like she had gone to the hospital.
She hadn't shown any signs of discomfort during the walk. Was she just toughing it out?
Selena was indeed toughing it out. Even pressing the gas pedal was agony.
But she had caused Raymond such a serious injury and delayed their attendance at the banquet tonight. She had to do something for him, or she wouldn't feel at ease.
Selena didn't want to owe Raymond anything.
"Mr. Montague, I know you have a house over there, but I don't know exactly which one. Could you point it out later?" She decided to keep up the act until the end.
Raymond leaned back, his gaze quietly falling on her.
Selena felt a strange sense of unease, gripping the steering wheel tightly. Her palms were sweaty from the pain.
When she saw the Ashbourne Manor, she instinctively hit the brakes, a reflex action.
The car stopped at the entrance of the Ashbourne Manor. Selena looked up and met his gaze through the rearview mirror.
Raymond said coldly, "Why are we stopping here?"
Selena forced a smile, realizing she had made a mistake, and felt a cold sweat break out on her back.
"My foot hurts a bit, just need a moment," she replied.
Raymond half-closed his eyes, surprised to realize that she wasn't invincible after all; she could feel pain.
It was quite a coincidence that they stopped right at the entrance of the Ashbourne Manor.
Fiona, who had seen Raymond's car before, quickly came out upon hearing the sound.
"Mr. Montague, have you finished attending the banquet?" Fiona asked.
Because of the glass, Fiona didn't see Selena.
Raymond's window was only slightly open. He responded with a simple "Yes."
Fiona was a bit puzzled. "Ms. Fair didn't come back with you?"
Thinking of Selena, Raymond's brows furrowed with irritation. "No, I'm not staying here tonight. No need to welcome me."
Fiona quickly nodded and said, "Alright, Mr. Montague, have a good night."
Raymond didn't respond and just closed his eyes. "Take me to the previous hotel."
Selena couldn't wait to leave, so when she heard Raymond's words, she almost floored the gas pedal.
Caught off guard, Raymond leaned back and glanced at her.
Selena's face was awkward, and she could only continue with her previous excuse. "My foot hurts, sorry, Mr. Montague, please bear with me."
Raymond replied calmly, "Okay, go to the underground parking."
Selena nodded, relieved. She had been worried that if the window had opened and Fiona had greeted her, everything would have been exposed.
They arrived at the hotel.
When Selena hit the brakes, her ankle throbbed with pain again.
After getting out of the car, she pressed the elevator button for Raymond.
The elevator went straight to the top floor. She then went to the front desk to get the room key card, opened the room reserved for him, and finally felt she had done her duty.
She placed the card on the table and asked politely, "Mr. Montague, I need to go back to Ridgefield tonight. Can I start bringing food to this room at nine tomorrow night?"
Raymond opened the cabinet by the entrance, took out a first aid kit, and placed it on the table. "Your foot, take care of it yourself."
Selena was stunned, then bent down and hobbled to the sofa.
The first aid kit had a pain relief spray. She bent over, and because she was wearing a dress, the strap naturally slipped off her shoulder.
Raymond, sitting on the other sofa, saw her slender neck and smooth skin. He frowned and looked away.
Selena didn't notice his gaze, her attention fully occupied by her injured ankle.
Taking off her small shoes, she realized how swollen her foot was.
Selena's fingers trembled slightly as she sprayed the pain relief and then tried to wrap it with a bandage.
But the bandage here was different from what she had used before. It wasn't a medical bandage but a specialized ankle brace.
After a few minutes of struggling, sweat beaded on her nose, and she still hadn't finished.
Remembering that Jacob was still waiting, she put down the bandage and looked at Raymond.
Raymond naturally noticed her actions, thinking she was asking for help, and instinctively started to get up.
After all, refusing at this moment would seem ungentlemanly.
But Selena said, "Mr. Montague, thank you for the first aid kit. I'll be going now. I'll definitely come by at nine tomorrow night, but since nine is quite late, can I make soup? Other foods might affect your rest."
