Chapter 38

Jane suddenly felt a wave of guilt. She knew she had stirred up this mess, but she really didn't want to go through with the bet.

She glanced around the studio, hoping for some backup, but everyone avoided her eyes, clearly not wanting to get involved.

Stuck in a tough spot, Jane was fuming.

Weren't these folks always griping about Selena? Why, when it mattered, did no one have the guts to step up?

Jane wouldn't admit it, but she was also mad at herself. She knew she couldn't outdo Selena, so why had she started this whole thing?

Her hand clenched at her side, nails digging into her palm.

"Selena, this isn't fair. Raymond's got a soft spot for you, so he probably already told you what he likes! We don't know anything, how can we compete?" Jane tried to justify herself. Even if she lost, it would be because Selena had an unfair advantage.

But Selena just looked up calmly, "If you don't want to compete, then don't. No need for all these excuses."

Selena stayed cool the whole time. Compared to Jane's anger and excuses, Selena was totally composed.

Jane was left speechless and humiliated.

Didn't Selena know when to back off? Why did she have to make Jane look so bad?

Jane couldn't understand what Raymond saw in Selena's designs!

She fumed inside but didn't lash out.

Still, Jane wasn't ready to give up. If she didn't compete, how could she keep working here?

And if she got to meet Raymond with Selena, he might be drawn to her appearance and figure.

Her expression shifted, "Fine, I'll compete, but you have to take me to meet Raymond."

Selena frowned. Why should she do that?

Jane pressed on, "You see him a lot, right? Just take a colleague along to observe. I won't bother you. What? Afraid Raymond might like my designs better after meeting me?"

Jane felt a bit emotional as she said the last part.

Raymond's looks, physique, and demeanor were a big draw for women. If he noticed her, why would she stay in this small studio?

Jane's face flushed with excitement. Without a word, Selena could see what she was thinking.

Selena found it amusing. Raymond had waited for Olivia for so many years; he wasn't going to fall for someone else so easily.

Even Selena, his so-called wife, hadn't seen him once in their three years of marriage. Why did Jane think one look from Raymond would make him fall for her?

Selena didn't want to argue anymore, her brow furrowed. "Since we're competitors, why should I help you?"

Jane was at a loss for words, her chest trembling with anger.

She glared at Selena, her chest heaving with rage.

But Selena just grabbed her materials, said goodbye to Matthew, and left.

She was only a part-timer and didn't need to stick around.

Seeing her leave so casually, Jane felt even more resentful.

She had to snatch this deal from Selena! There were other ways to get to Raymond.

Matthew rubbed his brow, "Jane, Raymond is already married. The media just hasn't reported it."

In other words, Matthew was hinting that she shouldn't do anything to disgrace the studio.

"How is that possible?" Jane shot back, but Matthew's tone was firm.

"His cousin said so himself." Matthew left out the part about Carter saying Raymond was planning a divorce, to keep Jane from getting any ideas.

But a hint of scheming flashed in Jane's eyes. After a moment of shock, she calmed down.

Raymond's marriage hadn't made the news, which meant his wife's family wasn't influential. Otherwise, the media would have been all over it.

Jane had thought she had no chance to meet Raymond, but now she could try to find an opportunity through his wife.
