Chapter 1376 Maybe It's Really Just Not Love Anymore

Raymond ignored Mario completely, holding Selena tightly in his arms like a comfortable cushion.

Despite the tension in the room, Selena remained asleep, even nuzzling against his chest to find a more comfortable position.

Mario, seething with anger and nursing his injured hand, couldn't contain his frustration.

"Raymond, are you just going to let this go?" he demanded. "Christopher clearly has ulterior motives. He's not over Selena—I can feel his emotions surge whenever he sees her. How can you keep her first love around, a man who still desires her? Aren't you jealous at all? If I were you, I'd do everything possible to make Christopher disappear. As for me, Mario, I'm on your side in this."

Raymond remained silent, noticing Selena stirring in his arms. He shot Mario a warning glance.

Mario, oblivious to the signals, continued pressing. "You agree with me, don't you?"

In the next moment, security guards entered and dragged Mario away.

Selena was indeed waking up. She glanced outside—afternoon again. Her mood had improved knowing Raymond promised to take her to see Victor, making her less resistant to his presence.

Later that evening, Raymond arranged a fireworks display on the rooftop.

A candlelit dinner accompanied the spectacular show, which continued until midnight.

Selena watched with detachment, appreciating the beauty of the fireworks but feeling little else.

Resting her chin on her hand, she felt tired after the display ended.

Raymond took her hand, and she suddenly felt something slide onto her finger.

It was a ring.

Her body tensed. Raymond hadn't knelt or made a speech—he'd simply slipped the ring onto her finger as the grand finale of fireworks faded from the sky.

Selena wanted to remove it, yet somewhere deep inside, she felt a flicker of happiness.

"Is this for me?" she asked softly.

"Yes."

She examined the ring carefully, wanting to say something but struggling to find the words.

"It's beautiful," she finally managed.

Raymond slowly raised his hand, showing a matching ring on his finger.

"Selena, this is a proposal. We'll have a wedding ceremony."

She nodded, but couldn't help asking, "When can I see Dr. Barnes?"

"Tomorrow."

"Really?"

"Yes."

He grew quiet, bending down to cut her steak. When finished, he pushed the plate toward her.

"I've had your phone repaired. I'll give it to you tomorrow."

Selena felt uneasy. She should be happy about seeing Victor, but watching Raymond like this made her inexplicably sad.

It was an indescribable heaviness—like being trapped in a sealed jar with emotions she couldn't express.

Looking at the steak before her, she had little appetite but picked up her fork anyway, spearing a piece and offering it to him.

"Raymond, aren't you eating? You've barely touched anything."

Raymond smiled softly and accepted the bite. "Selena, I'm still in your heart, aren't I?"

Seeing his smile eased her discomfort.

"I don't really know," she admitted. "I understand something's wrong with me. I remember all those memories you've told me about, but I no longer feel the emotions that went with them. Sometimes I think perhaps the old Selena loved you, but now... maybe I truly don't anymore. The fireworks tonight were beautiful, but they didn't stir anything in me. I'm sorry—I've tried."

She looked at the wine and steak before her and sighed with relief. "Saying this aloud makes me feel better. Maybe I simply don't love you anymore. You can't force feelings—you understand that, don't you?"

Raymond watched her without speaking.

Selena grew uncomfortable again, her fingers involuntarily curling inward. "So I can't accept this ring."

She expected Raymond to become angry—his gaze was so intense, as if it might swallow her whole.

But he didn't. He calmly took back the ring and placed it on his own little finger.

He replied calmly, "All right."

Selena felt as though a knife had pierced her heart.
