Chapter 1580 Gold Diggers After Paul's Fortune

Connie didn't feel upset when Timothy ignored her. She turned to Paul, rubbing her hands together.

"This is the most extravagant party I've ever attended. As expected from my future son-in-law!" she laughed. "Otha, come over and say hello."

Otha, still wearing a borrowed jacket, showed no embarrassment as he approached Paul with the air of an elder statesman. "I'm Ann's father. We've raised her all these years, so if you want to be with her, you'll need our approval first."

It was obvious they were only after Paul's money.

Paul's expression turned glacial, cold enough to freeze everyone in the room.

Standing nearby, Elara's lips curved into a barely suppressed smile before she fixed her gaze on Ann in the crowd. "Ms. White, perhaps you should explain to your parents that there's nothing between you and Paul. They must have misunderstood."

Connie's face immediately darkened. "Misunderstood? Ann told us herself!"

Elara's eyes widened in feigned surprise as she looked at Ann.

Ann stepped forward from the crowd, her back ramrod straight.

Behind her, everyone was whispering.

For a moment, Ann's mind went blank, but then she remembered Selena's words.

She took a deep breath and smiled. "I'm sorry, but I cut ties with her years ago. This isn't the first time I've been put in such an awkward position. Please don't involve me in situations like this again. We're not close—we both agreed to end our relationship when she forced me to apologize to my ex-boyfriend who had cheated on me."

The previous scene at S.M Corporation had been ugly, with Selena eventually stepping in to resolve it. That was when Ann had finally seen her mother's true colors, though she never imagined Connie could be this shameless.

Ann seemed beyond caring now, which made her unbreakable.

She raised her eyes, letting them linger on Connie for a few seconds. For some reason, Connie suddenly felt a chill.

Next, Ann's gaze shifted to her perpetually inappropriate stepfather, Otha.

She casually took a glass of wine from a passing server's tray and took a sip. "The man standing there, Otha, isn't my biological father. Years ago, my mother Connie divorced my father because he didn't make enough money. She took me with her. This is my stepfather, Otha Hagen—a complete jerk. But my mother loves him so much she lost herself, even growing to resent me, her own daughter.

"Now that my career is successful, she enjoys humiliating me at various events. Tonight's scene? I've experienced it four or five times before, including when we made headlines because Mr. Adams and Ms. Reed were present."

Her smile remained eerily calm, as if she were discussing someone else's family drama rather than her own reality.

She continued, "The time before last, she stormed into my company, begging Ms. Fair to fire me. She threw a tantrum, trying to destroy my career and force me to marry my ex who had already cheated on me. Thankfully, Ms. Fair and my colleagues believed in me, so I survived.

"Naturally, she wasn't satisfied and kept looking for other opportunities. Scenes like this will happen countless times more, but that's fine. I might as well take this chance to tell everyone here: I've long since cut ties with them!"
