Chapter 79 Just Do Me a Favor, Will You?
Raymond heard Selena's voice and frowned. He looked up from his stack of papers and, sure enough, there she was, standing outside the car with a big smile.
Ridgefield looked stunning today. The sunlight made Selena's half-exposed face glow.
Raymond's grip on the documents tightened. 'How does she always manage to show up?'
Selena didn't catch Raymond's brief discomfort and knocked again. "Mr. Montague, can I come in?"
Raymond replied calmly, "Get in."
Selena opened the car door and hopped in.
The midday sun was blazing, and as the door opened, a wave of heat and her faint perfume filled the car.
Brian, standing behind, saw Selena get in and felt relieved. He then got into the car behind them.
They hadn't driven more than 2 miles when they spotted a BMW up ahead.
It was the one Brian had driven out.
Megan was standing in front of it, on the phone, with a guy on a motorcycle next to her.
The guy saw Raymond's car and his eyes widened. "Megan, do you know how much that car costs?"
Megan had no clue, but it was the nicest car she'd ever seen. "How much?"
The guy made a mysterious gesture with one finger.
"Two hundred thousand dollars?" Megan guessed.
"Over two million dollars!" the guy said.
Megan was so shocked she almost dropped her phone.
She'd never seen a car worth over two million dollars. If you turned that into cash, how many houses could you buy?
In her shock, she saw Brian in the car behind and waved.
Brian had no choice but to signal the driver to stop.
Megan groaned, "Dad, the car's out of gas. Seriously, how could you not fill it up before leaving? How am I supposed to get back now?"
Brian apologized, "Megan, hang tight. I'll get a colleague to bring some gas."
Megan peeked inside the car but didn't see Selena. She immediately thought of the car worth over ten million dollars ahead. Could Selena be in that car?
Megan's eyes darted around, and she quickly said, "Is Selena in that car ahead? Call her and ask the driver to come back and pick me up."
Before Brian could respond, the other two men in charge frowned. "Mr. Montague is busy. Don't waste his time."
Megan huffed, "If Selena can sit in it, why can't I? Dad, call her now!"
Megan's tone grew impatient as she saw Raymond's car getting farther away and urged him.
Brian had no choice but to take out his phone and call Selena. "Selena, Megan's car ran out of gas on the road. We can't fit anyone else in our car. Can you talk to the investor next to you and give Megan a ride?"
Brian's tone was humble, almost pleading.
Selena immediately understood it was Megan's idea.
Megan had taken the car and left, and now that it was out of gas, she wanted them to fix it.
Selena responded, "Uncle Brian, I'm sorry, but Mr. Montague is on a tight schedule and has to get back to handle business. He doesn't have time to come back for Megan."
Brian continued, "Megan's friend has a motorcycle. I'll ask her friend to bring her to you. Just ask the driver to go a bit slower, Selena. I can't just leave Megan here. Please, do it for me, okay?"
Selena fell silent for a moment. She had spent her last year of high school in Ridgefield, staying at Brian's house.
Brian had always been good to her, and she remembered it well; but she absolutely couldn't agree to this.
Indulging Megan without limits would eventually lead to trouble.
The car wasn't hers, and with Megan's personality, who knew what she might do once she got in.
Just as she was about to speak, Megan's voice came through the phone. "Tell the investor next to you. Why are you so long-winded? Don't forget that the Fair family owes me. If Jacob hadn't gone to your family's company, he wouldn't have run away. Now no one knows where he is, leaving me to live alone and face all the surrounding discrimination. You all owe me!"
Selena hung up the phone directly.
Megan's face changed when she heard the call end, and she angrily looked at Brian. "She hung up on me. She clearly has no sense of guilt! If she ever comes back, don't give her a room. Selena looks down on us!"
Brian was in a tough spot. There were other people in the car with him, and he didn't want to delay them.
He quickly got out of the car. "Megan, why don't you get in? I'll walk back."
