Chapter 36
Mia still had that childlike innocence that made her eyes sparkle and her words just flow naturally.
Selena, who was used to dealing with tough people, felt surprisingly at ease around Mia.
She glanced at Mia's drawing without saying a word.
Mia sighed, pen in hand.
She didn't really expect Selena to give any useful feedback, but then she saw Selena suddenly grab a pen and make a few tweaks on the drawing.
The once dull picture instantly came to life.
Mia's eyes widened as she rubbed them. "Did you just change the colors? Wow, it looks like a whole new piece. Are you an artist too?"
Those skilled strokes and color adjustments were definitely professional.
Selena nodded and put the pen down. "Actually, your basics are pretty solid; it's just your color choices that need some work."
Mia was so excited she couldn't stop smiling.
"With your changes, I feel way more confident. This painting is for a competition. My mentor told me to go back and find some inspiration. I wanted to ask Raymond for his opinion, but he was in a bad mood. His wife, seriously, why didn't she show up for their appointment?" Mia complained, looking at Selena with admiration.
"Thanks. Your name is Penny, right? Where do you live? Can I visit you often?" Mia added.
Selena frowned, not because she didn't like Mia, but because she was worried that getting too close to the Montague family might make people think she had hidden motives.
"Sorry, it might be a bit inconvenient," Selena said.
In her innocence, Mia didn't realize this was a polite refusal. She had never been turned down before.
"Then can we add each other on Facebook?" Mia said excitedly.
Selena thought for a moment and showed her Facebook account.
Mia happily added her as a friend and then started mixing colors beside her. "Hang on a bit; I'll be done soon. Somehow, after your advice, my inspiration just started flowing."
Selena didn't disturb her. Mia mixed colors while chatting. "This studio actually belongs to Raymond. He used to love reading here."
'Raymond's room?' Selena thought, surprised, and couldn't help but look around. The style was pretty standard, but several walls had hollow designs with light shining through, giving it a unique vibe. It was clear it had been carefully designed.
At this point, Selena was torn about how to explain things to Raymond later and couldn't help but secretly check out the room's decor.
Was this Raymond's preferred style?
The doors and cabinets were made of dark brown solid wood, probably custom-made, with even the handles full of intricate details.
It was clear that Raymond had a refined taste and was super detail-oriented.
Selena felt a bit grateful to Mia at this moment. She had been trying to get info from Raymond but hadn't learned anything useful.
Now, Mia had accidentally brought her into Raymond's private space, showing off his unique style.
"All the details in this room were added by Raymond. Do you see those hollow designs?" Mia pointed to a spot Raymond favored.
In the whole room, Selena liked this part the most. The light seeped through, and at night, the hollow areas would probably look like a mirage.
When the lights were off, the glow from the walls would light up a corner, making it a perfect spot for deep thoughts.
She suddenly remembered what Carter had said; Raymond was not only a business genius but also super talented in art.
"So, what do you think? Raymond has good taste, right?" Mia put down her pen, her tone full of pride, showing how much she admired Raymond.
After speaking, Mia frowned. "It's a pity that Grandpa insists on Raymond marrying a worthless woman. Although Olivia isn't great, at least she's well-educated and decent-looking. I feel sorry for Raymond, seeing him with his current wife."
Selena stayed silent, feeling conflicted.
She became even more determined not to reveal her identity.
If Mia found out that Selena was the sister-in-law she despised, who knows how she'd react.
Hopefully, they wouldn't cross paths again in the future.
After complaining, Mia seemed to realize she had said too much and quickly changed the subject. "Can I ask you questions on Facebook in the future?"
"Sure, but I need to go now," Selena nodded.
"I'll take you downstairs," Mia said.
Leaving Montague Manor, Selena went straight back to her studio.
During this time, Mia enthusiastically sent her messages of thanks, but she didn't pay much attention to them.
As soon as she entered the office, she saw Matthew.
Beside Matthew was a female employee from the studio, Jane Graham.
She was the one Sarah had mentioned, always clinging to Matthew.
When Jane saw her, her expression wasn't great, and she forced a smile, her eyes full of resentment.
"Our star has returned." As soon as Jane spoke, everyone in the office looked up.
Everyone had heard about Selena securing the Raymond order. It was no secret in the designer circle, and their studio's reputation had skyrocketed.
In just one day, their orders had increased tenfold.
