Chapter 238 I Want a Divorce
She was annoyed for a split second but quickly got her head back in the game. The big issue right now was still Brian's family.
And honestly, her thing with Raymond was just a job. No big deal.
When she got back to Brian's place, he and Erin were still inside, looking all defeated. Megan had shown up by then and was already losing it when she heard Jacob might end up in jail.
"I can't believe I'm stuck with such a loser. I can't do this anymore! Give me $500,000, I want a divorce!"
Megan stood there, hands on her hips, acting all high and mighty, practically shoving her finger in their faces.
"A useless husband and a useless kid, always getting into trouble. It's pathetic. Who'd want to live with that? Just give me the money. I'm done!"
Over the years, most of Brian and Erin's money went straight to Megan. When Jacob ran off, they were left with almost nothing, handing over every penny to her.
Megan spent money like it was nothing and always looked down on Erin's work.
Feeling guilty, Erin couldn't help but beg. "Jacob might not have to go to jail. We can pay the compensation. Isn't this house about to be demolished? We'll have money then."
Megan sneered. "How long are we gonna keep paying? I'm done!"
Selena, standing at the door, actually thought Megan had a point for a second.
Brian had just covered Jacob's compensation, which was over a million bucks, and now there was more drama. Living with a guy like that was always a headache; it really wasn't worth it.
"Uncle, Aunt."
She called out, and Brian and Erin immediately looked over and rushed to her.
"Selena, how did it go? Is the boss gonna help us?"
"Jacob doesn't have to go to jail, but we still have to pay up."
Brian let out a sigh of relief and shakily pulled out a cigarette.
"As long as he doesn't have to go to jail, that's good."
Megan, seeing Selena walk in, rolled her eyes.
"You two old fools, I don't care what you say this time, I want a divorce and $500,000!"
Brian and Erin felt super embarrassed, especially in front of Selena, making fools of themselves again.
Erin's eyes instantly welled up.
"Megan, you know Jacob doesn't have to go to jail."
"Not going to jail doesn't change the fact that he's a useless bum! I'd rather marry a dog than live with him!"
Megan started smashing things in the house while cursing.
"Hurry up and give me $500,000!"
Erin and Brian didn't dare to stop her, so Selena stepped up and grabbed Megan's hand.
"Have you had enough?"
Megan was stunned and raised her hand to slap Selena, but Selena caught her wrist just in time.
"I'm not Brian or Erin; I don't have to put up with you. If you dare slap me, I'll slap you ten times harder. Believe it or not?"
Megan gritted her teeth in anger. "Sure, city girl can't handle any crap. Is this how you treat your elders? I'm still your sister-in-law, you know."
Selena let go of her hand, ignored her, and looked at Brian.
"She's right. If she wants a divorce, let her have it. Jacob's been nothing but trouble for years."
Although Megan wasn't great either, Jacob was clearly worse.
Brian didn't agree. He and Erin knew that Jacob's reputation was already trashed. With the house issue Brian had caused, the neighbors were all gossiping about them. If they divorced Megan, they'd never find another wife for Jacob.
"Megan, when this house is demolished, we'll give you all the money. If you stay, and if you have a child, we'll help take care of it."
A glimmer of light flashed in Megan's eyes. The demolition of this house should bring in quite a bit of money. After covering Jacob's expenses, there would still be some savings left.
Seeing her waver, Erin quickly added. "After your dad retires, he'll have a monthly pension of $3,000. We'll give that to you too. We won't keep any of it. Megan, you should hurry up and have a child."
Selena saw the couple's behavior and Megan's hesitation and couldn't help but smirk.
Indeed, suggesting a divorce was really meddling too much.
"You said it. All the money from the demolition and the pension will go to me."
Brian and Erin breathed a sigh of relief and, after saying some grateful words to Megan, turned to Selena.
"Thank you so much for your help this time. Did they say how much the compensation would be?"
