Chapter 1392 Have Some Respect
Nathaniel honked his horn casually. "Paul and Raymond were best friends, but now Paul's lost his memory, and Raymond's facing treason charges with people hunting him everywhere. You're just starting out—focus on buying yourself a decent place first. With what you've got now, you can barely afford a good neighborhood."
Carter deflated instantly, his eyes clouding with disappointment.
Nathaniel quickly softened his tone. "Still, making this much money in such a short time is impressive, Mr. Ashford. At least you've shed that spoiled rich kid image. Let's celebrate tonight with drinks?"
"Absolutely. I'm ordering the most expensive bottle."
"It's on me," Nathaniel replied, effortlessly turning the steering wheel, an expensive watch gleaming on his wrist. Ironically, between the two, he looked more like the trust fund playboy now.
Back at the hospital, two hours later, Paul was wheeled out of surgery.
Ann rushed forward but Emily shoved her away. "You don't deserve to touch him. Get lost before you contaminate my sight!"
Kai caught Ann, pulling her against him with a suggestive tone. "Don't stoop to her level, Ann."
Ann's skin crawled. She immediately pulled away from his embrace.
Kai smirked, reaching to tilt her chin up, but she jerked away.
"Have some respect," she said coldly.
"Didn't know you had such a temper," he replied, treating her anger like a cat's harmless hiss—amusing rather than threatening.
The rest of the family crowded into Paul's room, waiting for him to wake. With Emily blocking the way, Ann was forced to wait in the hallway. The door shut firmly in her face, leaving her to peer through the narrow window.
The Adams family packed the room, surrounding the bed in layers, each trying to demonstrate maximum concern before Paul regained consciousness—knowing their recent behavior could earn his wrath once he remembered everything.
Kai hadn't gone in either. He'd secretly hoped Paul wouldn't survive, and now he was frustrated. Learning about Paul and Ann's relationship, however, had piqued his interest.
He pinned Ann against the wall, preventing her escape. "If I'd known you were warming Paul's bed, I wouldn't have let you go that night. You were so sensitive—had you just left his bed?"
Humiliated, Ann's cheeks burned. She tried to slap him, but he caught her wrist and disgustingly inhaled her scent.
"Delicious," he murmured.
Ann felt nauseated, her face paling. Against such a wealthy, powerful creep, she felt helpless.
"Let go!" she demanded.
Kai ignored her, playing with a strand of her hair. "Paul probably won't remember you. Better cooperate—if Emily decides to make trouble, no one will help you."
Ann's face darkened, her fist clenching at her side.
Finally, she drove her knee hard into Kai's groin.
He crumpled instantly, his face contorting in agony as he doubled over.
Ann backed away, eyes vigilant. "I told you to let go. You didn't listen."
Anxious but unwilling to leave before Paul woke, she threatened, "Stay away from me or I'm calling the police."
Despite her warning tone, Kai heard only seduction in her voice. No wonder Paul wanted her—she was certainly intriguing.
