Chapter 118 You're not Mad, Right?

Even after an hour of icing, the swelling still hurt like crazy, especially when she tried on high heels. It felt like needles were stabbing her skin.

Selena's forehead was slick with sweat, but she kept on with her makeup routine.

Seeing her struggle, Fiona felt a pang of sympathy. "Ms. Fair, maybe I should call Mr. William Montague and reschedule?"

"No," Selena replied firmly.

This banquet was all about making William happy. He'd been so good to Selena, and she already missed his airport arrival. No way she was missing tonight.

Determined, she finished her makeup and put on the bracelet William had given her. No other accessories needed.

She looked stunning, with a cool vibe, and her dress highlighted her waist, making her look super elegant.

With the bracelet on, she looked even more radiant.

Once ready, Selena didn't waste any time and got into the car.

Not long after, she got a call from James, asking her to swing by the Fair Villa to pick up Alice.

Selena frowned, "Dad, why is Alice going? Isn't she sick?"

"Yeah, but she heard about the banquet and wanted to join. William adores you, he won't mind an extra guest. Selena, Alice is your sister. She's been cooped up in the hospital for years. I'm busy, so just take her with you."

Selena didn't have strong feelings about Alice, so she agreed.

The car headed to the Fair Villa, where Alice was already dressed and waiting.

Alice looked frail and pitiful due to her illness.

Beatrice didn't argue with Selena tonight, probably because she knew they needed Selena to get Alice into the event.

Beatrice also wanted to go but didn't want to ask Selena. Letting Alice go was good enough.

Maybe someone would like Alice's type, and she could find a wealthy man.

Everyone knew the Fair Family was struggling. If Alice could find better support, it would be better than staying with the family.

"Selena, I'm sorry for being a pain," Alice said softly, holding Selena's hand. "You’re not mad, right?"

Selena's face was blank as she replied, "Let's get in the car first, or we'll be late."

Alice nodded, lifted her dress, and carefully got into the car.

This was a limited edition Bentley William had left at Ashbourne Manor, and it was Selena's first time riding in it.

Since they were heading to the Montague Villa, driving her own car didn't seem right.

The banquet was set for 7:30 PM, and the car cruised down the road.

Selena and Alice had nothing to say to each other, so Selena looked out the window. What she saw made her frown.

A guy in tattered jeans caught her eye. He was young and standing by the roadside, eating something like he hadn't eaten in days.

Selena had sharp eyes and immediately recognized him as her runaway cousin, Jacob Layman.

Jacob had been missing for years, leaving his parents and wife behind, racking up debt, and not even calling.

Brian and Erin would tear up whenever they mentioned Jacob. She never expected to see him in Silver Bay City.

"Stop the car," Selena said, eyes locked on Jacob, afraid he'd bolt.

The driver quickly stopped, and Selena got out, ignoring the pain in her ankle.

"Wait for me," she told the driver, heading towards Jacob.
