Chapter 240 I'm Pregnant!

"Jacob's your cousin, for crying out loud. Cut him some slack, I'm begging you," Erin pleaded, her face all humble, lips trembling.

Brian just stayed quiet, kneeling there.

In most families, the dad's usually the silent type.

Jacob was stunned by the slap, tasting blood. He moved his lips and spat out a bloody tooth.

Selena pulled her hand back. "if you'd just divorced Megan back then and not taken my dad's money, he wouldn't hate your family. Brian and Erin wouldn't have to bow down to my dad. But you ran off with over a million bucks, living it up while they suffered Megan's wrath, serving her like servants. What good are you, Jacob? Where's your sense of responsibility?"

Jacob just wiped the blood from his mouth, saying nothing.

The police station went dead silent as everyone watched from a distance, too scared to step in because of Selena.

Selena took a deep breath. "Let's not get into that now. Since you knew what kind of woman she was, why didn't you divorce her when you came back? Why did you write a self-criticism letter and even buy a sofa on credit?"

Jacob hung his head, voice barely a whisper. "That witch asked where the money went. She said if I gave her $300,000, she'd give me a son. I spent some of it and transferred $500,000 to the card you used in high school. I thought I could quietly take the card back since Dad had already paid off the debt."

Before he could finish, Selena slapped him again.

Jacob's face swelled up, and he didn't dare fight back or make a sound.

Selena was fuming just looking at him. What a useless man.

She had gone to Ridgefield High and later got into Silver Bay City Art Academy. She did have a card from Ridgefield back then.

At that time, she was having a falling out with James, who didn't try to bring her back but let her stay in Ridgefield to think things through.

Selena couldn't understand why James liked Beatrice, whom she saw as opportunistic and fake, and wanted to bring her and her family into the Fair family.

Because Selena went to Ridgefield, James didn't immediately bring Beatrice over but married her officially when Selena went to college.

She hadn't used that card in a long time, so the money should still be there.

"This is the last time I'm helping you. Megan was right about one thing: Jacob is a deadbeat and a total disgrace to men. If he causes any more trouble, don't call me."

Erin quickly wiped her eyes. "Selena, don't worry. I won't bother you again."

Selena nodded and looked at Jacob. "After I get you out, promise me you'll divorce Megan and apologize to the person you hit. Let go of your worthless pride."

Jacob hesitated for a long time, touching his cheek, which was covered in slap marks. "I understand."

"Jacob, I'm not joking. If you can't do these two things, I'll leave tonight and never answer your family's calls again."

Jacob lowered his eyes, tears starting to fall. "Selena, I really know I was wrong. It's not worth going to jail for Megan."

"You better mean it."

With that, Selena went to talk to the officer in charge.

Kieran called, and after a brief chat, the police let Jacob go home.

Selena went with Jacob to buy some fruit and visit Kieran's son in the hospital.

This time, Jacob kept his cool, even when someone threw a cup at him, he just smiled.

The other person seemed to lose interest and told them to get lost with a string of curses.

Outside the hospital, Selena turned to Jacob. "Go divorce Megan."

When Megan heard Jacob wanted a divorce, she was in disbelief. "What did you say? Say it again, you useless piece of trash!"

Megan started making a scene, attracting the attention of the neighbors, who came to watch the drama unfold.

The Layman family felt deeply humiliated and just wanted Megan to leave.

But Megan said, "I'm pregnant! Fine! You don't want this baby, right? I'll go get an abortion right now!"

Hearing this, they froze.
