Chapter 1356 She Can't Die

When Selena got into his car, she instinctively checked the time. "Dr. Barnes, is it that late already? I thought only a minute had passed."

Two hours had elapsed without her noticing.

Victor motioned for her to buckle up.

He said, "You need proper rest these days. After we meet Lawrence, you should get some more sleep."

He then took out his phone and called Jason. "Mr. Smith, I actually have leads regarding your daughter. But as you know, Lawrence has unconditional love for Tessa. I'd like to meet with both you and Lawrence. I just called him too. You should come now, or I'm worried he might retaliate against me later."

Jason narrowed his eyes. Just hours ago, Victor had claimed to have no leads whatsoever, yet now he was making this call.

After hanging up, he frowned, looking toward Lawrence who was coming downstairs.

Lawrence's expression was grim.

"Who gave you permission to threaten Raymond using the Smith family name?" Jason asked.

"Father, after what Raymond did to Tessa, as her brother, I naturally want revenge. Tessa's eyes and voice are barely recovering, yet she still pines for Raymond. Shouldn't he, as the culprit, pay some price?"

"I heard Tessa went after Raymond's people first."

Lawrence's face turned cold. "Then Selena deserved it."

Just as he finished speaking, Tessa slowly descended the stairs.

She had been confined to her room lately, never coming down, crying every day.

Early this morning, her sight had returned, and her voice had improved enough for her to speak.

But before she could celebrate, Lawrence received a call from Victor about an urgent matter.

Tessa had received an anonymous text saying Jason had once approached Victor, hoping he would help the Smith family find their biological daughter in Silver Bay City.

She had long known Jason couldn't be trusted. Now she needed to secure Cora's and Lawrence's unconditional affection to avoid being expelled from the Smith Villa.

Victor's meeting with Lawrence must be about Selena.

Could Victor have discovered that Selena was the Smiths' true daughter?

Fury consumed her.

She didn't want Lawrence meeting Victor now, but coming downstairs, she saw Jason too.

She'd been avoiding Jason lately, but now had no choice but to greet him.

Tessa looked apologetic. "Dad, Lawrence, please don't argue because of me. It's my fault. I shouldn't have fallen for Raymond. I've caused you trouble."

She began crying again, breaking Lawrence's heart.

Tessa had simply fallen in love with a man—what wrong had she done?

Wasn't Raymond the villain, constantly giving her hope only to disappoint her?

As if Tessa were merely a catalyst in Raymond and Selena's relationship. Why?

How could someone like Selena be worthy?

The hall was silent. Jason didn't look at her, only saying, "Victor called me too. I'm going to see him as well."

Lawrence consoled Tessa. "Tessa, stay home and rest. I need to see what's going on. Victor says it's important."

Tessa's face instantly drained of color.

Victor must know she wasn't the true daughter and had likely uncovered Selena's identity, which is why he was meeting them!

Damn it!

She had to stop this!

Her heart raced wildly. She wanted to faint but couldn't afford to.

In an instant, she collapsed, falling toward the floor.

"Tessa!" Lawrence was startled and exclaimed.

Cora, who had just returned home, witnessed the scene and rushed forward in panic.

She asked Lawrence, "What's wrong with Tessa? Wasn't she getting better?"

Tessa looked at Cora with tear-filled eyes, trying to speak but unable to catch her breath.

Cora nearly fainted herself from the shock.

Jason stood calmly at a distance, like an outsider in his own home.

Lawrence paced anxiously, alternating between comforting Cora and holding Tessa.

Cora looked at Jason with reddened eyes. "Darling, if anything happens to Tessa, I don't want to live either."

Jason's brow furrowed. Cora couldn't die—she still harbored secrets.

Yet oddly, Cora hadn't shown any tells over the years.
