Chapter 1621 Interesting, Truly Interesting
Calla knew Raymond wouldn't last much longer. After all, he was up against her creation. She quickly and calmly handed out the explosives to the people in front of her.
"Find some corners, especially near doors, and set off the explosives. But remember to keep a safe distance from us. These things pack a serious punch."
It had taken her three years to develop these explosives, and they were many times more potent than regular ones.
The ground had already trembled once. If the explosives went off, an earthquake and landslide could follow immediately.
The research base would either be pushed to the surface or buried forever underground.
But there was no choice now. As Raymond had said, staying here meant certain death.
The group quickly set off with their explosive backpacks, donning protective suits. The hall was filled with people in protective gear, and Zaid's target was Raymond, so the large screen constantly displayed Raymond's face and his current predicament.
Raymond was dodging Number 8's attacks. Though he managed to evade them, he was in a sorry state.
Number 8's strength was beyond human capability, and he was fixated on Raymond like a predator ready to pounce.
Raymond had just taken a punch, and even breathing hurt.
He heard Zaid's voice again. "If you die here, Selena would be devastated. My biggest regret is that she didn't come in with you."
If Selena were here, he could have wiped out the entire group.
Raymond ignored him, deftly dodging Number 8's attacks.
Zaid watched with interest, even pulling out a glass of wine from a nearby cabinet.
The corpses around were a bit of an eyesore; otherwise, he'd be enjoying himself more.
This control room had everything, indicating Isolde's significant power, which she had kept hidden from Zaid.
She had never trusted Zaid. If it weren't for her affection for Atlas, she would have killed Zaid long ago.
But she hadn't, because to Atlas, Zaid was everything.
And because she hadn't killed him, they were in this mess now.
Raymond dodged another attack from Number 8.
Number 8's desire to survive was strong. He needed to stay alive to see his family, so anyone in his way had to die.
He continued attacking Raymond silently, their fight growing more intense. Other test subjects wanted to join in but couldn't.
Meanwhile, Clifton and his team had placed the explosives in the designated spots. But when it came time to detonate, he hesitated slightly.
He had come to the research base out of curiosity and because a genius from the Farley family might have been captured here.
But once inside, he realized the place was far more terrifying than he had imagined. They hadn't found the genius, who was likely dead from experiments.
Clifton was ready and asked the person next to him again.
"Ready?"
"Ready."
There was a clock on the wall. In three minutes, they would activate the bombs and retreat to the central hall.
Clifton wasn't afraid of dying, but seeing the test subjects still killing people made him think that hell couldn't be much worse.
The minute hand moved slowly, and three minutes passed in a flash.
Clifton bent down to activate the bombs and started running back.
The bombs had a five-minute delay before exploding. By the time they reached the central hall, it had already turned into a hellish scene.
Someone had used poison, and a few people's protective suits had been burned off by high temperatures, but everyone was still frantically attacking Raymond.
Raymond was defending against Number 8, already covered in wounds.
And the broadcast continued with Zaid's voice. "Interesting, very interesting. Raymond, you managed to hold on for this long."
He hadn't expected this. Everyone knew how powerful Number 8 was.
Zaid's lips curled into a smile as he took another sip of his wine, not noticing Atlas standing at the door, seemingly ready to leave.
Zaid's attention was entirely on the control room, not seeing what Atlas was doing.
Atlas had just put an insect in his pocket, but it was restless and flew out through a small gap.
He wanted to ask Zaid if he could open the door to catch the insect.
But Zaid had already told him not to touch the insect. If he knew Atlas had secretly pocketed it, he'd be furious.
Atlas took a deep breath, opened the door himself, and started looking for the insect at the entrance.
