Chapter 144 You're So Hard to Pin Down

Shelley shot back a quick reply: [Not long after we split, his boss needed him. You know, he's juggling a bunch of jobs every day.]

Even though Shelley was loaded, Philip wasn't exactly rolling in dough. He was renting this tiny 400-square-foot apartment. But hey, he was young, good-looking, and super hardworking.

Selena actually got the scoop on him from Shelley.

Word was, Philip had been hustling with four jobs a day since his college days to pay for school and living expenses.

Meanwhile, Shelley's family was in the diamond biz, the biggest in the country. She never had to worry about money growing up.

Selena was initially puzzled why Shelley would go for a guy like Philip.

Turns out, when Shelley started dating Philip, she didn't spill the beans about her wealthy background.

She even pretended to be broke to fit into Philip's world, claiming she was a waitress at a restaurant.

Philip bought it, and they quickly became a thing.

To sell the lie, Shelley even rented a tiny apartment, which she joked wasn't even as big as her family's pool.

Selena never really approved of Shelley and Philip's relationship; their families were just too different. When the Harper family eventually arranged a marriage for Shelley, Philip wouldn't even be in the running.

But Selena could tell Shelley was genuinely into Philip.

So, Selena decided to tail the two women without being noticed.

There were only two presidential suites on this floor, spaced far apart to avoid any disturbances.

After following them, Selena hid and saw one of the women knocking on a door.

Lyra stood by as the door opened, and confetti exploded everywhere.

"Happy Birthday," Philip said, stepping out.

Lyra wrapped her arms around Philip's neck, pouting a bit. "You're so hard to pin down. If it wasn't my birthday, you wouldn't have shown up, would you?"

Philip took a step back, keeping some distance.

He looked about twenty, super handsome, the kind of guy who'd turn heads on campus. Youthful, sunny, with a smile that could light up a room.

Selena, standing not far away, saw this and immediately texted Shelley.

She just sent the hotel location and Philip's name.

Shelley wasn't dumb; she'd figure it out.

Selena snapped a photo but didn't send it to Shelley to upset her. It was just in case Philip tried to lie later.

Carrying a thermos, Selena went to knock on Raymond's door.

The rooms were far enough apart to avoid any noise.

The door opened, and there was Raymond, fresh out of the shower, in his sleepwear, with water still dripping from his hair.

Selena already knew Raymond had a great physique and had once thought about sketching him. So when she saw him, she paused for a moment.

In the silence, a water droplet fell from Raymond's hair, rolled down his chest, and disappeared into his shorts.

Seeing Selena, he seemed to remember the soup delivery.

"Mr. Montague," Selena called out, shaking the thermos in her hand.

Last time, Selena had left the thermos here, and Fiona had bought a new one.

Raymond noticed she was still in the same clothes, and his eyes darkened a bit.

Selena didn't catch his change in expression and just stood by the door.

"This is tonight's soup," Selena said.

Raymond turned, grabbed a towel, and gently dabbed at his hair.

His back was all muscle and bone, exuding a sense of rugged elegance, and he was tall and graceful.

Selena couldn't help but marvel at how some people could be so good-looking.

She walked in, placed the thermos on the table, and saw the one she had left last time.

She picked up the empty thermos and reminded Raymond, "Mr. Montague, you should get some rest."

Just as she was about to leave, she noticed Raymond was taking out a medical kit, looking like he was about to change the dressing on his hand wound.
