Chapter 1498 I Want to Marry Selena

If Raymond died, what would become of Selena?

Emilio had never considered anyone else's welfare—his thoughts were always consumed with pleasing those who held authority over him. Yet the image of Selena sifting through ashes for bone fragments haunted him like a silent film playing endlessly in his mind.

"Mr. Blair?"

The voice calling his name snapped him back to reality. Parker stood before him, having approached unnoticed.

"Mr. Blair, lunch has been prepared for you and your companion. Please, follow me to the dining room. I won't keep you any longer."

Emilio rose to his feet, pausing briefly as he passed Mario. The fool who had worn such an innocent expression earlier now regarded him with sharp, calculating eyes. This was his true face, wasn't it?

The moment Mario noticed Emilio's hesitation, his eyes narrowed slowly. A moment's consideration was all he needed to recognize the face beneath that mask. Of course—it was him.

A cold smile played at Mario's lips as he remained seated, watching from the corner of his eye as the black-robed figure rose and followed Emilio. Mario's gaze tracked their retreating forms, his hand gradually clenching at his side.

No matter how Raymond disguised himself, he couldn't escape Mario's scrutiny. Mario knew Raymond too intimately—every subtle gesture, every minute movement was transparent to him. The black-robed figure was undoubtedly Raymond.

So Emilio and Raymond were allies. But what could Raymond have possibly offered Emilio to secure such loyalty and concealment? It was inconceivable.

Mario's palm slowly formed a fist, his eyes becoming unfathomably dark—an expression that even made Parker uneasy.

"Mr. Torres, is something wrong?"

After last night's demonstration of Mario's capabilities, Parker would never doubt him again. In fact, he needed to cultivate this man's favor—he was the key to elevating the Schmidt family above all other houses.

Mario's mouth curved into a smile. "I possess a certain compound that ensures compliance. Mr. Schmidt, have you truly been content all these years to remain under Mr. Blair's thumb?"

Parker's body went rigid. He hadn't expected Mario to be so audacious. What exactly was this man planning?

Mario chuckled softly, his fingertips making a delicate pinching motion, as if snapping something invisible. "I intend to marry Selena, but certain individuals wish to obstruct me. I want every obstacle swept away."

When Parker had first glimpsed Mario's ambitions, alarm bells had sounded in his mind. Now, hearing that his ultimate goal was simply marriage to Selena, and seeing Mario expose what appeared to be a vulnerability, Parker reconsidered.

After a moment's reflection, he said, "Produce this compound first. If it proves effective, I'll consider your proposal."

Parker had spent years offending no one, biding his time, but his appetite for power ran deep. He had long yearned for the Schmidt family to lead these houses, had grown weary of treating a black-robed figure as an honored guest. If he could monopolize the source of those pharmaceuticals, if he could make all of Mystic Prison his domain...

Heat surged through his chest at the thought.

"She's just a woman, Mr. Torres. You can marry her whenever you please."

"I want Selena to receive proper respect within the Schmidt family. I may discipline her myself, but no one else will be permitted to do so. Those servants who mistreated her—replace them all."

Parker caught the flash of murderous intent in Mario's eyes. The man was deadly serious—he truly was orchestrating all of this for one woman.

Had he lost his mind? Women held such low status on the island, yet he was scheming to such lengths for a single female. Still, this worked in Parker's favor—as long as he controlled Selena, Mario would remain manageable.
