Chapter 1525 I Forgot to Tell You: I'm Getting Married
In her dreams, Selena felt a warm hand holding hers.
Before falling asleep at dawn, she'd meant to set an alarm to wake up early, but she ended up sleeping for five or six hours straight. When she woke, sunlight was already flooding the hospital room.
Raymond held one of her hands while his other hand moved across a keyboard, apparently responding to messages.
Selena felt momentarily disoriented seeing his face, until he squeezed her hand firmly, bringing her back to reality.
"You need a full medical examination today. I'll stay with you—are you hungry?" he asked.
"Raymond, you're awake?"
Raymond released her hand and reached for antiseptic wipes, carefully cleaning each of her fingers. "I've been up for two hours. You should sleep more."
Selena found herself unable to fall back asleep, her heart heavy with thoughts of Octavia and Jason.
Raymond, having already gathered information since waking, gently ruffled her hair. "Don't worry, Selena. Mario isn't that easy to kill—I'm sure we'll have leads soon."
He positioned a pillow behind her lower back and helped her sit up. Leaning against the pillow, she felt considerably more alert.
They both understood that the research facility situation needed immediate resolution. International attention had focused on Mystic Prison, though no one had uncovered anything useful yet.
The media had exposed Mystic Prison's existence, creating a public uproar, and the connected research facility was rapidly becoming a target for global scrutiny.
Raymond had scheduled Selena's examination appointments and accompanied her through each procedure.
Just as the tests concluded, a nutritionist arrived with lunch.
Selena was genuinely hungry and had eaten about half her meal when both Ann and Shelley called to check on her condition.
Since she'd been virtually cut off from the outside world during her time in Mystic Prison, Ann and Shelley had been worried sick, calling every few days. Hearing her voice finally eased their anxiety.
Ann's call focused mainly on business matters—S.M Corporation was thriving, with several consecutive film investments winning major awards. Sophia and Betty had both achieved A-list status, while Austin had become a mega-star. S.M Corporation held deep significance for everyone, and from the day Selena left, they'd all been waiting for her return.
As the call neared its end, Selena noticed something off about Ann's voice—it sounded hoarse, as if she were ill. "Ann, are you feeling unwell?"
Ann paused briefly. "No, Ms. Fair, I'm fine. The company is running smoothly, and we're all waiting for your return."
After hanging up, Selena remained uneasy and called Ronald directly. He was his usual self—a workaholic who regularly stayed at the office until midnight. Hearing from Selena brought surprise to his voice, but when she asked about Ann, he fell uncharacteristically silent.
"Ronald, what's wrong with Ann?"
After a long hesitation, Ronald sighed. "It involves the Adams family. Ann has been representing the company at several galas recently and keeps running into Emily Adams, who makes snide remarks and humiliates her every time."
Selena frowned. She knew Ann's character well—a woman who'd risen from nothing wouldn't be bothered by mere embarrassment. Emily must have done something far worse.
Concerned about her friend, Selena made sure to ask Shelley during their call to check on Ann at the company.
Whether it was her imagination or not, Shelley's tone also seemed evasive and hesitant.
Being abroad and out of contact for so long made Selena constantly worry about her friends' safety. "Alright, Selena, I'll go see Ann right away. Don't worry. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you—I'm getting married!"
