Chapter 194 Taking Root Deep

Once they got out of The Montague Villa gates, Grace caught up with Raymond and sighed, "Raymond, I didn't think William would get so mad. I'm really sorry."

"Grace, this isn't on you. It's between Penny and me," Raymond said coldly.

Grace's face turned cold at the mention of Penny. "Look, I don't mean to butt in, but you've already been whipped. Just let it go and break it off with her. Who knows what William will do next time, and she might get caught up in it too."

Raymond replied, "Grace, I know what I'm doing."

Grace knew pushing it further would just make things worse, so she stayed quiet.

Raymond got into the car, careful not to lean back.

His back was killing him, the pain almost unbearable.

Then Selena called, "Mr. Montague, I'm at the hotel. Are you coming back tonight?"

Raymond gripped the steering wheel, cold sweat on his forehead, lips pale.

"Yeah." His tone was flat as he hung up.

Selena waited outside the hotel room, feeling a bit better.

A few minutes later, Raymond showed up at the elevator.

Seeing him, Selena sighed in relief, nodded, and got straight to the point. "Mr. Montague, I need to talk about Ms. Montague."

Raymond walked past her without a glance, swiping the room card to open the door.

Selena followed him inside, catching a faint scent of blood, which made her frown.

Raymond's injuries should've healed by now, so where was the blood coming from?

Raymond walked into the room and instinctively started to take off his suit jacket, but then he remembered Selena was there and froze, sitting down on the sofa instead.

Raymond asked, "Did Grace mess with your order?"

It seemed Raymond remembered last night's events, but it was unclear if he recalled the kiss.

Selena wasn't too bothered, just worried he might think she had taken advantage of his drunken state to kiss him.

But since Raymond didn't bring it up, she didn't either.

Selena nodded. "Yeah."

Raymond then asked, "Is the studio hit hard?"

Selena felt a bit warm inside, surprised he would ask about the studio. "It's okay, but since I'm not very popular there, some designers are a bit upset with me."

"I'll talk to Grace about it. As for the misunderstanding between you two, she won't bother you again."

After all, the whipping had already happened, and it would distance the two of them. That night would be a thing of the past.

Selena let out a sigh of relief and said, "Thanks, Mr. Montague. I'll get back in touch with the suppliers."

A smile spread across her face, and her eyes lit up.

Raymond glanced at her, mumbled something in acknowledgment, and then went quiet.

As the room fell silent, the atmosphere got a bit tense.

Two people who had been close were now sitting face to face in silence, the air thick with unspoken words.

Selena realized things were getting awkward and stood up. "Mr. Montague, I should probably go..."

Before she could finish, John's voice came from the door, "Mr. Montague, are your injuries okay?"

John was holding a medical kit, clearly having gotten a call from Raymond.

Selena paused, looking at Raymond. Was he hurt?

Looking closer, she noticed his forehead was a bit damp, and his lips were pale.

John hadn't expected Selena to be there. After a moment, he put down the medical kit and said, "Ms. Cooper, since you're here, could you help Mr. Montague with his medication? You're more meticulous than I am."

Having been helped by Raymond several times, Selena couldn't refuse.

John put down the medical kit and found an excuse to leave.

Seeing Selena in Raymond's room again, John knew there was something between them.

How things would develop depended on Raymond.

Selena picked up the medical kit, steeling herself, and asked, "Mr. Montague, where are you hurt?"

No wonder she had smelled blood earlier. Was the wound on his palm reopened?

Raymond stayed silent for a bit before slowly turning his back and taking off his jacket.

Selena saw the deep, crisscrossing wounds and gasped, dropping the medical kit. "Mr. Montague, what happened?"

Selena quickly bent down, picked up the medical kit, and approached him. But since his shirt was stuck to the wounds, she didn't dare to pull it off, breaking into a sweat from anxiety.

Raymond squinted slightly, watching her through the glass in front of him.

She seemed genuinely scared, her hands and feet unsure of what to do, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

Just as he was about to ask Selena to use scissors, he felt a gentle breeze on his back. She was so worried that she instinctively blew on his wounds.

The cool air on his wounds felt like it penetrated through the torn skin, seeping into his pores, and taking root deep within.
