Chapter 290 Raymond Still Finds Her Special

Raymond still had a bit of a fever today, but at least the rash was gone.

His face was ice-cold, and Lillian, standing next to him, was still waiting for him to say something.

Raymond didn't bother and just walked straight into the elevator.

Lillian felt awkward and quickly went back to her desk.

Inside the elevator, John noticed Raymond's cheeks were still a bit flushed from the fever and said, "Maybe you should go home and rest a bit more."

Raymond had been feverish all night and looked pretty worn out. He rubbed his temples and finally couldn't hold back.

"If Selena calls me later, handle the rose garden issue."

The meeting was going to be long, and John wouldn't be attending; he'd stay outside.

Raymond's phone would stay in the office. Even if he took it into the meeting, it would be on silent because this overseas acquisition meeting was super important.

The Montague Group was always either acquiring companies or on the hunt for acquisitions.

John could tell Raymond still had some feelings for Selena.

Even if they were subtle.

"Okay." John replied.

Raymond nodded, left his phone in the office, and followed the execs into the conference room.

But after sitting down, his mind wandered to the video he saw last time. In the video, a woman was yelling, and Selena had told him it was the neighbors renovating.

A smile flickered in his eyes.

Selena didn't leave the rose garden right away but went to the building where Lauren lived.

She had already asked the security guard on the first floor.

Lauren ran a karaoke bar and was pretty loaded. Her husband was home today.

Selena knocked on the door, and a middle-aged man with a creepy vibe answered.

"Hey, are you Lauren's husband?"

The guy nodded, looking Selena up and down with a sleazy grin.

"Are you the new girl Lauren found? Got any experience? Are you a virgin?"

Selena frowned and took a step back.

The guy moved closer, looking eager.

"Come on in. I'll be done in ten minutes, so you won't be late for work."

Selena almost laughed out of anger. She thought Lauren's husband might control her, but this guy was even worse than Lauren.

No wonder Lauren felt bold enough to openly look for other men.

But she caught the key point.

"Work? At the karaoke bar?" she asked.

The guy sneered. "Since Lauren found you, stop pretending to be pure. Others have come here before, just wanting a higher salary. Sleep with me, and Lauren will give you a raise. Hurry up!"

He reached out to grab her.

Selena quickly stepped back.

The guy squinted, finally realizing something was off, and his face turned nasty.

"You're not one of the girls from the karaoke bar?"

But Selena had already darted into the elevator and kicked the guy who tried to follow her out!

Her heart was pounding, and she felt a wave of relief as the elevator slowly descended.

Once on the first floor, she found the patrolling security guard to make sure she was safe, then called the cops to report that Lauren's karaoke bar was up to no good.

The guy had chased her because he realized he had let something slip.

Selena quickly left the rose garden, got into her car, and finally felt a bit safer.

Her palms were sweaty, and she was grateful for her quick thinking. If that guy had dragged her into the room, who knows what could've happened.

She wiped the cold sweat from her forehead with a tissue, quickly drove away, and headed to the hospital.

Two hours later, the police showed up at the rose garden and went straight to search Lauren's place.

Her husband, knowing he had messed up and failed to catch Selena, had already fled.

Lauren, now in handcuffs, looked pale and had lost all her arrogance.

When the police raided her karaoke bar, they caught people red-handed in illegal activities, leaving her no room to argue.

Lauren got into the police car, still not understanding how her long-running business had suddenly been exposed.

But she would never know.

When Selena returned to the Rose Garden, she heard people talking about Lauren's situation.

She called for cleaning services to clear the trash outside her door and joined the homeowners' group.

She explained her side of the story to everyone.

Clarifying things now was the best move since Lauren was already in jail, and the karaoke bar scandal had spread throughout the community.

"Because I reported her karaoke bar before, she retaliated by throwing trash outside my room and spreading rumors about my private life. I graduated from Silver Bay City University and have a legitimate job. I hope the rumors stop here."

Silver Bay City University was the top university in the country, the ultimate goal for many parents educating their kids.

One person was going to jail, and the other was a top student from a top-tier university. Everyone knew who to believe.

Lillian saw the homeowners' group change from initial disgust and exclusion to praise, and she was fuming.
