Chapter 365 Caterlington
Was this some kind of dream sent by Barbara?
Barbara was worried James would end up lonely and that Selena would marry the wrong guy, which were proved right.
James was now totally isolated and desperate. Arthur and Victoria's family were just waiting to hit him up for money, and then there was that massive debt from Apex Holdings Group. He probably thought dying would be the only way to wipe it all away.
If Selena let James die like this, she'd never shake off the regret.
But what could she do?
She called Shelley to ask about Bert.
But the Harper family's finances were still under Shelley's dad, Nathaniel Harper, and Shelley didn't know much about the business side of things.
Selena made call after call, and finally got through to Caterlington.
Caterlington was getting ready to head out for a business dinner at some fancy restaurant that evening.
Caterlington's eyes lit up, and he grinned when he received the call. "My dad and Bert are tight. If I sold you that info, my dad would probably break out of prison just to smack his ungrateful son."
Then he switched gears. "But if you join me tonight, I might think about it."
Selena didn't even blink and asked for the restaurant's location right away.
She got all dolled up and showed up at seven sharp.
The restaurant's entrance was all glitzy, and the customers here were all important in Silver Bay City.
Caterlington's car pulled up quickly, and when he saw her outfit, his eyes practically popped out.
Selena usually went without makeup. But tonight, she had on light makeup and a sleek women's suit that showed off her figure.
Even though he'd seen plenty of beautiful women, Caterlington almost had a nosebleed right then and there.
Caterlington scuttered up to Selena.
Selena saw him coming and smiled, nodding. "Caterlington."
Caterlington gave her a once-over and said jealously, "Raymond really doesn't know what he's got."
Selena pretended not to hear. Compared to other guys, Caterlington was definitely more reliable. He had feelings for her but didn't have the guts to act on them.
"Shall we go in?"
A flicker of disappointment crossed Caterlington's face. Selena was really a tough nut to crack.
Her lack of romantic interest was just like Raymond's, no wonder they were a couple.
Realizing this, he found it even more challenging and directly extended his arm, signaling for her to take it. "If I put my arm around your waist, you'd probably slap me. But at least hold my hand. You know, I'm the most notorious playboy in Silver Bay City. If my date keeps her distance from me, my friends will laugh at me tomorrow."
That "most notorious playboy" title was definitely self-proclaimed.
But Selena still reached out and held his arm.
They walked across the fancy red carpet and arrived outside the private room.
A waiter respectfully opened the door, and inside sat the middle-aged man who was going to collaborate with Caterlington.
But next to the middle-aged man sat an elegant woman, someone Selena knew all too well—Grace.
Selena's steps faltered, and she instinctively wanted to pull her hand away from Caterlington's arm.
Caterlington also recognized Grace and didn't expect her to be there tonight.
At that moment, the middle-aged man stood up and smiled as he introduced them to Caterlington. "Grace is the representative from the Montague Group. The Montague Group also wants in on this project, so I arranged this meeting tonight to get your thoughts."
The middle-aged man's gaze fell on Selena, and he complimented her. "You are really beautiful."
Caterlington originally wanted to keep his distance from Selena, especially since there were people from the Montague family in the room. If they went to William and complained, it would be tough for Selena.
But his peripheral vision caught Selena's poised demeanor, and he instantly understood.
Grace probably didn't know Selena's identity, either.
How insignificant must she be in the Montague family?
Caterlington smiled. "Yes, she is Selena, an interior designer."
After a few polite exchanges, they slowly took their seats.
Selena could feel Grace's gaze on her, filled with obvious disdain.
She must have misunderstood that Selena was messing around with Caterlington.
Selena didn't care. In Grace's mind, her reputation was already ruined.
The negotiation began, concerning an overseas collaboration.
In the private room opposite, Raymond and the president of Cornerstone Construction were sitting there. The Montague Group and Cornerstone Construction's tourism project was significant. To make a good impression on Raymond after some issues with their workers, Cornerstone Construction arranged this dinner.
Accompanying Raymond was Olivia, who had casually mentioned it, not expecting him to agree.
From Cornerstone Construction, Lucas accompanied the president.
