Chapter 169 Another Encounter
Selena shot a look at the woman next to Jacob. With her red hair, thick black eyeliner, and heavy makeup, she was almost unrecognizable.
The woman noticed Selena storming over and spat on the ground. "Jacob, who’s this?"
"Uh, this is my cousin."
"Yeah, right. Didn’t you say you had no family in Silver Bay City? Is this your girlfriend?" the woman asked.
"No!" Jacob stammered, but the woman slapped him across the face and spat again. "Get lost, and don’t come looking for me again."
Jacob tried to go after her, but Selena grabbed his sleeve. "Jacob! You’re married. What are you doing messing around with other women? At least go home and get a divorce first!"
The woman hadn’t gone far. Seeing Jacob tangled up with Selena, she got even angrier.
She marched back and shoved Selena onto the road. "Bitch! How dare you steal my man! Do you even know who I am?"
Selena didn’t expect the woman to push her.
A car was coming, and it looked like it was about to hit her.
Jacob stood at the intersection, screaming.
But the car stopped just in time, inches from Selena.
Selena got up, still shaken, and saw Jacob pushing the woman. "Get lost! Don’t ever show up again!"
"Fine, Jacob. Then don’t bother coming to work tomorrow!"
Jacob’s face turned bright red, and he couldn’t look Selena in the eye.
Selena had regained her composure and stood up. When she saw the familiar license plate, she felt a chill.
The car window rolled down, revealing Raymond’s face.
Raymond had probably just finished a social event; his shirt was unbuttoned at the top, and one hand rested on the car window, showing a silver-blue cufflink.
He glanced at Selena, his tone cool. "Trying to scam me?"
Selena didn’t know how to respond. She was furious at the woman’s actions and shocked to see Raymond here. How did she keep running into him in such embarrassing situations?
"Mr. Montague." Selena tidied her hair and nodded at him. "I’m sorry."
Then she looked at Jacob.
Jacob was a bit afraid of Selena. Although they had lived together before, Selena used to be quiet and focused on her studies, far less imposing than she was now.
"Jacob, what are you doing with a scumbag like this?"
Selena wasn’t judging by appearances, but after the woman’s actions, her impression of her had plummeted.
If it weren’t for Raymond’s driver’s good driving skills, she might have died tonight.
Selena was already disappointed in Jacob and now felt he was beyond help.
Especially since he didn’t even go back to see Brian and Erin when they were in trouble. He was a complete jerk!
Brian and Erin had always doted on Jacob since he was a child. Even when he got into trouble, they cleaned up after him.
The woman was still standing next to Jacob. Hearing this, she rolled up her sleeves and was about to charge at Selena.
She exclaimed, "What do you mean by 'scumbag'? Don’t think you can judge me just because you’re more educated!"
Selena’s appearance indeed suggested she was more educated, unlike the woman.
Jacob was also getting anxious and kept scolding her, "Enough! Get lost!"
"Fine. But don’t come begging me to find you a job tomorrow!"
This sentence completely shattered Jacob’s dignity, especially in front of Selena. Jacob almost instinctively wanted to run, but Selena held him back. "Can you take some responsibility? Jacob, you’re already 28."
This wasn’t the first time Selena had said something like this to Jacob, and Jacob felt very embarrassed.
He took a deep breath, wanting to curse at Selena, but when he saw the imposing Raymond sitting in the car, his courage vanished instantly.
