Chapter 11
Selena glanced up and caught a quick flash of coldness in Raymond's eyes.
A bunch of people walked by, not even glancing her way. The guy in charge was all about Raymond, talking and walking with a ton of respect, trying to impress but not step on any toes. Everyone else was in suits.
This was a world Selena had never been a part of.
She stood there for a bit.
Then, with her golf club case in hand, she headed out.
Joseph, decked out in high-end sportswear, looked pretty average. He hit the white ball, and it made a perfect arc, landing right in the hole. When he saw Selena coming, he handed the club to a nearby caddie. "Ms. Cooper, you're a tough one to pin down."
Selena gave a graceful smile and sat next to him. "Mr. Anderson, you're too kind. I'm just running errands."
As they chatted, the staff nearby started clearing the area, signaling someone important was on their way.
Joseph saw her gaze and, unable to resist, puffed out his chest and began to brag. "You know the Montague Group, right? My dad set up a golf game today, with a deal worth at least twenty billion dollars."
Selena had met all kinds of clients, including the braggy ones. The best move was to play along. "I heard Mr. Ethan Anderson bought land last year for three billion dollars just for construction. Twenty billion is just small change for you, right?"
Pride flickered in Joseph's eyes, and he grinned. "Twenty billion's no joke, but Mr. Montague just got back to the country, and Citibank's the first to team up with him. It's a big deal."
Selena's praise for Raymond was cool but spot-on. "Mr. Montague's return has definitely made waves."
Joseph took the water handed to him by the caddie and walked towards the grass, making Selena follow. "Yeah, but I heard from my dad that he might be married."
"Really? Mr. Montague doesn't strike me as the marrying type," Selena said, pulling out her golf club to keep up with Joseph. Since he liked to gossip, she'd play along.
Joseph shrugged. "I don't think so either. If he's got a wife, why keep her under wraps? She must be a real 'knockout', right?"
Selena's swing paused, but she quickly adjusted. "Maybe."
Joseph watched as Selena's ponytail swung in the air, her skin glowing in the sunlight, and he swallowed hard. "If Mr. Montague married someone as beautiful as you, Ms. Cooper, he'd probably want to show her off every day."
Selena replied, "Mr. Anderson, you're too kind. I'm not that lucky."
They chatted and played a few more rounds of golf before Joseph said he needed a break.
Selena wanted to bring up the design order, but before she could, he said, "I've worked up quite a sweat playing golf. How about we change clothes first?"
Selena thought about it and realized talking business like this wasn't the best idea.
After a quick shower, she had just changed when the door swung open.
She frowned. These changing rooms were private; why didn't they knock?
Looking up, it wasn't a staff member.
Joseph stood there, fresh out of the shower, with just a towel wrapped around him, looking all casual.
He had no muscles, clearly a body that had seen too many late nights and indulgences.
Sensing something was off, Selena spoke cautiously, "Mr. Anderson, did you come to the wrong place? This is the ladies' changing room."
Joseph smiled and gave her a once-over, "Has anyone ever told you you're very beautiful?"
As he spoke, he moved closer, a smirk on his lips. "When I tried to sign a contract with you before, you ignored me. Now you show up so quickly. Are you short on cash?"
Selena took a step back. "Mr. Anderson, I don't appreciate this. Please stop."
Joseph liked her cold and indifferent demeanor. Women with a bit of fire made the chase more thrilling.
He grinned mischievously, "Don't worry, if you make me happy, I'll add a few million to the design fee."
A flash of disgust crossed Selena's face, and she moved towards the exit. Joseph quickly grabbed her waist. "My guys are in the hallway. Think you can just walk out?"
With Selena in his arms, Joseph could barely contain himself.
"I never planned on running, but are you sure you want to do this here, Mr. Anderson?" Selena took a deep breath, staying calm. She wasn't a match for Joseph's strength, and his guys were guarding the door. She said, "Citibank worked hard to get an appointment with Raymond. You wouldn't want to mess that up over a moment of stupidity, would you?"
Joseph looked her up and down and sneered, "You think Raymond would blow off Citibank because of you?"
Selena nodded. "Yes."
Her firm reply made Joseph hesitate.
Joseph asked, "What's your relationship with Raymond?"
Selena responded, "He's my husband."
Joseph laughed, but then Selena added, "If you don't believe me, Mr. Anderson, I can call him right now."
Joseph's smile froze. If Selena wasn't lying and Raymond found her alone with him in a changing room.
Even if Raymond didn't care for her, no man would let that slide, right?
He wasn't sure, so he didn't dare touch Selena. His face darkened, and he finally let go.
Selena had bet on his hesitation.
She breathed a sigh of relief, grabbed her things, and opened the changing room door.
As she stepped out, she stopped in her tracks.
Seeing Raymond approaching in the hallway, she felt a rush of heat behind her.
