Chapter 1379 I Am Overwhelmed with Jealousy
After speaking, Selena raised her hand to look at the ring on her finger.
"Sometimes I feel like something's wrong with me," she said softly. "I can't pinpoint what's off, but I feel anxious. There are so many things I want to express, yet I can never quite grasp them. I remember everything we've been through together, but my inner world feels like stagnant water—completely still, without any ripples."
Her fingertips curled slightly. "Only when this ring appeared did something feel different. Though I can't explain exactly what changed."
Raymond took a deep breath, holding her tightly against him. "Selena," he said softly.
After a moment's thought, she asked, "You'll still take me to see Dr. Barnes tomorrow, right?"
What a mood killer.
"Yes, I will. Now get some sleep."
Only then did Selena relax, drifting off contentedly.
Raymond gazed at her face, kissing her again and again, never feeling it was enough.
After a while, he smiled to himself.
In this moment, he realized with perfect clarity that Selena truly loved him.
Her love was every bit as deep as his own.
They were just two people who struggled to express it.
Soon he would do something that would hurt her, but he had no choice.
The next morning, when Selena woke up, she immediately began trying on clothes in front of the mirror.
Raymond sat on the edge of the bed, watching her fuss about.
After three outfits, still unsatisfied, she felt she should look her best when meeting Victor.
Raymond didn't rush her, but when she reached for a fourth outfit, he gently asked, "Do you care about him that much?"
Selena frowned. "I can't explain it. I just feel he's a good person, that I should trust him. He makes me feel safe."
Raymond leaned back against the bed, beckoning her with his finger. "Come here."
Still clutching a new outfit, Selena slowly approached the bed. "What is it?"
"Listen, Selena. I'm insanely jealous, but I know this isn't your fault, so I won't make things difficult for you."
Selena nodded solemnly. "Can I continue changing now?"
Raymond took a deep breath and pulled her down onto the bed.
He said, "Our appointment with him isn't until noon. We have four hours. Let's do something else first."
He made love to her intensely, leaving marks all over her neck.
When she looked at him with heavy-lidded eyes, catching her breath, he couldn't resist taking her again in front of the mirror.
"No need to change again. You look perfect. If you try another outfit, I'll have to make love to you again, and you'll never make it to see Dr. Barnes today."
Selena quickly surrendered. "No more changes. I'll wear this one."
Satisfied, Raymond tucked a damp strand of hair behind her ear. "Perfect. Wearing the same outfit you made love in to meet Dr. Barnes—you're becoming quite adventurous, Selena."
"Stop saying such things."
Raymond released her, his lips curving into a smile. "Go shower. We'll leave when you're ready."
When she emerged from the bathroom, Raymond had already showered and dressed.
She put on the same outfit, remembering his words with flushed cheeks.
Raymond put his arm around her. "Excited to see Dr. Barnes?"
She nodded, unable to control the emotions rising within her—like a bird returning to its nest, a feeling of profound security.
"After seeing Dr. Barnes, will you come back to me?"
"Raymond, you could stay there with me."
Raymond nodded in agreement. "I suppose that could work."
Selena didn't notice that he was simply going along with whatever she said.
"Selena."
"Yes?"
"Do you really have to see him?"
She immediately felt disappointed and upset. "You promised me. Are you going back on your word?"
"No, I just wanted to confirm one more time. Open the door."
Satisfied with his answer, Selena pulled open the double doors of the seventh floor.
Outside, about forty feet away, Helen stood holding a gun. Without hesitation, she pulled the trigger.
Before Selena could react, she felt blood splatter across her face. Looking down, she saw Raymond's chest bleeding.
The seventh floor had two staircases—one on their side, one on Helen's—with a vast open space between.
Selena heard the gunshot, felt the blood, and watched as Raymond raised his hand to wipe the blood from her cheek.
But his hand only made it halfway before he fell backward, tumbling down the stairs.
Selena stared at the scene in shock. Looking up, she saw Helen slowly putting away her still-smoking gun.
Blood rushed through her veins.
She wanted to scream but couldn't make a sound.
Something was restraining her, tightening its grip, but the terror of losing Raymond was like a wild beast crashing against its cage.
Even the tightest restraints turned to dust, vanishing completely.
The beast finally broke free.
She raced downstairs, stumbling once along the way.
