Chapter 58 I Don't Have That Kind of Pull.
Albert was floored, turning to see Raymond standing just ten feet away, looking as calm as ever.
The moment Raymond walked in, all eyes were on him.
Next to him was Mia, who gave Selena a quick wink.
Mia had been freaking out watching Emily give Selena a hard time. Thank goodness Raymond showed up; otherwise, Mia would've been at a loss.
Emily was from the Adams family and had quite the rep at school. Selena, just a designer, didn't stand a chance in a verbal showdown. So, Mia had to call in the cavalry.
The vibe in the room was super tense, and Albert was at a loss for words. But Selena kept pushing, "If I have to register, then everyone viewing the exhibition should too, right? It can't be a rule just for me. I don't have that kind of pull."
Raymond's eyes locked onto Albert, who started sweating bullets. He'd made up the rule to mess with Selena and didn't expect Raymond to catch on.
Without a good excuse, the school would look bad in front of its biggest investor, Raymond.
Just as Albert was fumbling for words, Emily stepped up, looking a bit more polite. She seemed to know Raymond somewhat.
Emily jumped in first, "Raymond, this isn't Mr. Sanchez's fault. She stole my bracelet and won't admit it. That bracelet is worth three hundred grand. I want to call the cops."
"I already said, I didn't steal it," Selena shot back.
"How could you not have stolen it!" Emily snapped.
Selena frowned, "Why should people believe I stole it just because you say so? Just because you're from the Adams family?"
"You!" Emily was left speechless, her face turning red.
Meanwhile, Caterlington, who'd been watching from the sidelines, thought things were about to wrap up. With Raymond here, he couldn't let someone else take the credit, especially since he wanted to impress Selena.
So, Caterlington cleared his throat, grabbing everyone's attention, "Emily, could you be mistaken?"
Hearing Caterlington back Selena up, Emily lost it.
Emily fumed, "How could I be mistaken? She bumped into me, and my bracelet vanished! How could it be a coincidence? Fine, if she wants the three hundred grand, it's not impossible. I want her to apologize to me in person! Then it's over."
Caterlington looked at Selena, "Penny, why don't you just admit it?"
Selena pulled out her phone and, in front of everyone, called the cops, "Hello, this is Silver Bay University. There's been a theft involving three hundred grand. The school won't provide surveillance footage. We need police assistance. Thanks."
After hanging up, Selena put her phone away, "The police will be here soon. We'll know the truth then."
Emily's eyes showed panic, her fingers clenching in fear.
Emily didn't expect Selena to call the cops in front of everyone. If Selena didn't steal the bracelet, Emily would be the one humiliated.
And it would be in front of so many important people, including some of Emily's teachers and classmates. How would she face them afterward?
Emily started trembling with nerves, then she heard Selena speak to Albert. "Mr. Sanchez, Ms. Stone, you're planning to expel me based on Emily's accusations before the results are even in. You even made up a rule just for me. Do you think this kind of treatment will impress our investors?"
After speaking, her eyes scanned the room and finally landed on Raymond, giving him a slight smile.
Raymond frowned, his gaze falling on Albert, putting a lot of pressure on him.
Albert shivered under the look and told the security guard next to him, "Go get the surveillance footage from this period."
As soon as he finished speaking, Samantha shouted sharply from the side, "Don't go!"
