Chapter 1411 The Truth About Origins
Richard froze, then quickly ran after Raymond.
"Raymond, what's going on?" he asked.
Raymond ignored him, heading not for a car but for a helicopter.
When Richard tried to climb aboard, Raymond nearly kicked him off.
"Damn it, Raymond! Why do you always do this? At least tell me what's happening! I came to you about something important—you don't need to be so cold!"
Despite his complaints, Richard managed to board the helicopter.
Raymond's voice was ice cold, "You'd better pray Selena is safe. Otherwise, Lawrence is a dead man."
Richard felt a chill run through him, immediately thinking of the two videos. Was Lawrence seeking revenge on Selena?
He immediately called Lawrence, but couldn't get through.
Anxious, he called Cora instead. She answered.
"Mom, what is Lawrence doing?"
"Lawrence took Selena away to teach her a lesson. She bullied Tessa—she can't get away with that!"
Richard was furious. How could they both be so clueless?
He wanted to say more, but the helicopter was already taking off.
He hung up and told Raymond, "I know where Tessa is staying. Knowing Lawrence, even if he's taken Selena, he'll go to Tessa first."
The helicopter flew directly toward that location.
After about ten minutes in the air, Raymond received a call from Paul.
Paul had been in Ridgefield for nearly five days and had uncovered some leads he wanted to share immediately.
"Paul."
Hearing Raymond's voice, Paul sighed with relief, organizing the documents in front of him.
"The hospital in Ridgefield is where Mrs. Smith gave birth to her daughter. Many staff members left the hospital during that period. I've been trying to track down these former employees and discovered that, according to official records, they all died within a year, one after another."
Raymond was shocked. "All of them? Dead?"
This suggested that the baby swap in the Smith family was part of a massive conspiracy—why else would so many lives be sacrificed?
"Yes, all dead. I thought we'd hit a dead end, but I recently found a psychiatric facility. It was relocated ten years ago to a remote village location. It's now cared for by a few middle-aged women from a neighboring village who work for minimal wages. There are only about a dozen patients, including one former hospital employee who's been acting mentally unstable. He escaped with his life years ago, and pretending to be insane was his only way to survive."
"So is Layla the Smith family's daughter?"
"No," Paul replied with certainty, his finger tracing an address on one of the documents.
If Selena were here, she would recognize this address as a place where she had briefly lived in Ridgefield.
Paul analyzed, "Raymond, Layla and Selena have very similar backgrounds, but since Selena has been with you, it's been easier to overlook certain clues. I've discovered several critical points here."
He continued, "First, Selena's supposed adoptive mother, Barbara, looks identical to Cora. Second, Selena was also born in that hospital. Add to that this mental patient's testimony—he confirmed that two babies were switched. The person behind it was too well-hidden to identify. The hospital director was coerced into cooperating, and everyone in their department had no choice but to go along. The patient also mentioned that the switched child lived in the same district where Barbara once had a home."
By this point, Raymond understood everything.
