Chapter 1511 He Is Not Omnipotent

Eldon clutched the family heirloom and turned to leave without another word.

Raymond gently lowered Selena to the ground, his fingers threading through her hair with tender care. Even in unconsciousness, she remained restless, sweat beading across her fevered brow. A sharp ache pierced his chest as guilt consumed him—he'd failed to save her mother, choosing instead to protect Selena herself.

Burying his face against her neck, Raymond allowed himself a moment of vulnerability. Since entering Mystic Prison, he hadn't dared rest for even an hour—convincing Eldon, investigating their enemies, mapping every treacherous path. Now he regretted bringing Selena into this nightmare.

Mario's involvement had spiraled beyond his calculations. He wasn't omnipotent; even he made mistakes.

"Eldon, you have ten minutes. If you're not back, I'm leaving without you."

"Understood."

Eldon had already disappeared into the smoke-filled distance, his silhouette swallowed by the haze of battle. Raymond started the countdown on his phone, watching the minutes tick away. He'd given his word to take Eldon with them, and he wouldn't break it.

Leaning against the wall, he held Selena closer, feeling her fragile warmth against his chest. Seven minutes passed with no sign of return. His brow furrowed with growing unease. Two more minutes—still nothing.

Raymond's eyes remained fixed on the final seconds, unblinking. He couldn't know that the man who'd risked everything was now lying in a pool of his own blood.

Eldon stared up at the ashen sky, feeling droplets strike his face—rain, he realized dimly. He tried crawling toward their rendezvous point, but his strength failed him after barely a meter. As darkness crept in, he saw a figure approaching, shoes stopping just before his face.

He struggled to focus on the person above him, hearing only a quiet voice ask, "Can you still walk?"

It was Raymond.

Eldon wanted to shake his head but lacked even that strength. Raymond crouched down, taking in the blood-soaked wound across Eldon's chest. He knew immediately—this was fatal. A single thrust through the heart; what he was witnessing now was merely the final flicker of life.

Raymond closed his eyes, suppressing the grief that threatened to surface. Eldon raised his hand weakly, attempting to speak, but managed only a bitter smile. His fingers fell halfway, crashing heavily to the ground.

Drawing a deep breath, Raymond felt for the first time that Mystic Prison shouldn't exist. Eldon had been the only one on the inner island who truly wanted to leave. He shouldn't have gone to see Leo—only old loyalty had driven him there.

But when Leo drove the blade into his heart, he'd said only one thing: he wouldn't let the Schmidt family disappear.

Clearly, this was all Yosef's doing. The Soto family wouldn't tolerate Eldon's existence, let alone his escape.

Before his eyes closed forever, Eldon whispered, "Go. Don't wait for me."

Raymond looked toward the distant sounds of gunfire and explosions, then turned back toward Selena without hesitation.

Eldon's body lay silent in the rain until debris from a nearby explosion buried him beneath the rubble.

When Raymond returned to the tunnel entrance, the others were still waiting. He gathered Selena in his arms, his voice barely above a whisper, "Anyone who wants to come with me, follow. Those who want to stay—you're free to go."

The remaining men exchanged uncertain glances. "What about Mr. Soto?"

Raymond offered no answer, striding deeper into the tunnel with determined steps. After a moment's hesitation, the others saluted him with military precision. "Mr. Montague, farewell then."

They were Soto family men—following Raymond's orders, even briefly, meant death if they returned. Leaving meant facing an unfamiliar world where they'd be lost and helpless. Unlike Eldon, they lacked his desperate resolve to break free. They preferred their small corner of familiar hell.

Raymond didn't look back, holding Selena tighter against his chest.

Meanwhile, K sat aboard his ship, his expression growing darker by the minute. What should have been a smooth operation had turned into a disaster. Lawrence and Walter's forces had arrived, and worse still, Emilio had betrayed them.

Despite their past conflicts, both he and Emilio served the same organization. Why would Emilio turn against everything to help Raymond? It made no sense.
