Chapter 128 Avoiding Him Would Seem Fake
Selena was dead tired. If Raymond had shown up a minute later, she might've dozed off against the wall.
So, when she heard the elevator ding, her eyes lit up. She straightened up and put on a respectful face. "Mr. Montague."
Raymond noticed the spark in Selena's eyes and his expression softened a bit.
He swiped his card to get in, and Selena trailed behind, setting the thermos on the table. "Mr. Montague, here's tonight's soup."
The thermos was pink and looked pretty fancy.
Raymond didn't expect Selena to pick such a color. She always seemed so professional and no-nonsense at work.
He was a bit surprised but didn't say anything, just unbuttoned a couple of buttons on his suit.
After dropping off the soup, Selena was ready to leave. Hanging around might give him the wrong idea. "Mr. Montague, enjoy your soup."
As she turned to go, Raymond asked, "Aren't you taking the thermos back?"
Selena thought about saying no, but then figured there might not be any extra thermoses at Ashbourne Manor since she didn't stay there often.
Plus, it seemed like Raymond wanted her to wait until he was done eating.
So, she sat down, looking so calm it caught Raymond off guard. "Mr. Montague, I'll wait for you to finish before I leave."
To Selena, Raymond was just a client and soon-to-be ex-husband. They'd done more intimate things, so avoiding him would seem fake.
She didn't want Raymond thinking she was playing hard to get, so staying calm seemed like the best move.
Raymond raised an eyebrow. There was a kitchen in the suite, and he thought she’d pour the soup to a bowl.
It was already nine o'clock. Waiting for him to finish the soup would take at least an hour.
What was Selena thinking?
Raymond frowned and was about to ask her to get a bowl from the kitchen when he noticed she had fallen asleep on the sofa.
Selena was really exhausted. She hadn't slept the night before, drove for hours from Ridgefield to Silver Bay City, and had been busy making the soup. Even though she didn't cook it herself, she stayed awake during the process. She forced herself to deliver it, even arguing with Jane and Reid downstairs.
Now that it was quiet, the sleepiness hit her hard.
Raymond had never seen anyone fall asleep so fast. Was she faking it?
He walked closer and heard her soft breathing. She had faint dark circles under her eyes, and he remembered her saying she was going to Ridgefield last night, so he got it.
Raymond stopped bothering her and took off his suit, unbuttoning his white shirt.
His body was lean and muscular, with a sharp, clean look.
You could see the power in his tight muscles.
Selena had felt his strength in bed, but she obviously couldn't appreciate it now.
Raymond tossed his suit aside and went into the bathroom.
When he came out, he saw Selena had pulled his suit over herself, probably feeling cold.
Raymond frowned and tried to take the suit back, but Selena held on tight.
A rare trace of irritation crossed Raymond's face. How did delivering soup turn into this?
He took a deep breath and decided to let her keep the suit.
Just then, Alex called, and he went to the balcony to answer.
"Raymond, want to grab a drink?" Alex's voice came through the phone.
Alex smiled, holding a wine glass. "By the way, I'm working on a new script. If Penny comes to you, tell me about it. Might give me some inspiration."
"Screw off." Raymond was about to hang up, but Alex sensed something was up. "Your tone's less gloomy. Did I hit a nerve? Is Penny in your bed? Who said they wanted to save their first time for the wedding night with Olivia?"
Raymond's face darkened, and he thought about his first time with Selena.
That was his first time, driven purely by physical instincts, and he hadn't expected to leave so many marks on her.
What surprised him more was that the woman who gave him such an unforgettable night was a married woman.
Raymond's Adam's apple bobbed as he pushed away other thoughts and hung up on Alex.
