Chapter 1635 Reconciliation?
Paul recognized Brody's face immediately. Wasn't this Ann's cheating ex-boyfriend?
Were they getting back together now?
He tossed his water bottle into the nearby trash can without looking and walked straight out.
Once he got into his car, his driver called. "Mr. Adams, where's the person we're supposed to pick up?"
"No need, someone else is picking her up. Head back."
The driver was confused but followed orders and drove away.
Paul started the car and didn't glance back at Ann. He turned the steering wheel and pressed the gas pedal.
He felt a bit of disdain. A man who cheated was like a piece of chewed-up gum that had been spat out. If Ann wanted to pick it up and chew it again, who could stop her?
Some women just deserved to be deceived.
Besides, didn't she like him?
Her affection was so cheap. Last week, she was heartbroken over him, and this week she let her ex-boyfriend touch her face.
Paul didn't notice how tightly he was gripping the steering wheel. He thought about Hugo, whom he had encountered in the restroom.
He quickly made a call.
People like Hugo should be kicked out of the company sooner rather than later. It was embarrassing.
Ann pushed Brody away and stumbled outside, trying to hail a cab.
Brody stuck to her like glue, his face full of concern.
"Ann, let me get you a room nearby. If you're worried, I won't go upstairs with you." He was pretending to be a gentleman now.
Ann's teeth were chattering from the cold, but she didn't want him to notice.
A car pulled up in front of her, and she bent down to see Shelley inside.
"Shelley?"
"Ann?"
Shelley was in the car, trying to unlock the door, but it was locked.
She looked at the man reviewing documents beside her.
"My friend seems drunk. I want to take her home."
Philip didn't respond, just glanced at his watch. "You have ten minutes if you don't want to see your dad."
Shelley felt a wave of humiliation. This was a chance she had fought hard for.
After begging for a week, Philip finally agreed to let her meet her father, but only for ten minutes.
The car was headed to the prison.
She took a deep breath and saw Brody standing behind Ann.
"I'll take my friend home. I won't be visiting today."
Philip raised an eyebrow and signaled the driver to unlock the door.
Shelley got out and helped Ann. "Are you drunk?"
Seeing a familiar face, Ann's forced composure instantly crumbled.
Shelley tried to get Ann into the back seat but heard Philip's voice. "Put her in the front."
With no other choice, she placed Ann in the passenger seat.
She ignored Brody, got back into the car, and gave the driver Ann's address.
Ann leaned to one side and fell asleep, but she still felt the coldness in the car—not the temperature, but the atmosphere.
She couldn't help but shrink her neck, hearing a pleasant male voice.
"Seems like you don't care about your dad that much."
As soon as he finished speaking, his phone rang. It was Emma, asking where he was.
"I'll be back soon. Are you at my place? I'm not with her. Didn't the doctor tell you to rest more? I've already eaten."
Shelley stared out the window, not listening to his conversation with Emma, but they were close enough that she could hear him comforting her.
"Be good, eat by yourself, don't wait for me." He hung up and slowly capped his pen.
"If Emma knew you slept with me last night, she'd probably faint. I remember she's not supposed to be stressed, right?"
Philip wasn't provoked. He clipped the pen to his documents.
"We're getting married. Is there a problem with sleeping together?"
Shelley started to laugh. "Then Emma must feel pretty pathetic. She's known you since childhood, waited all these years for you to marry her. You're always so heartless with women."
Philip didn't respond, grabbing her wrist and pulling her into his arms.
Shelley instinctively slapped him, like she had thorns on her body.
Maybe because Benjamin was mentioned tonight, her emotions were affected.
She couldn't be as strong-hearted as Philip, pretending nothing had happened.
Philip didn't flinch, grabbing her wrist and pulling down her collar, biting her neck.
Shelley shivered in pain.
The next second, he slowly licked the spot with his tongue. "Next time you slap someone, think about the consequences first."
