Chapter 52 Then Who Hit You?

Selena was surrounded by a doctor. Hearing Grace's words, she almost choked. Just as she was about to speak, the doctor accidentally poked her injured cheek, making her yelp in pain.

That cry only made Grace angrier.

"Raymond, get someone to bring Carter home within ten minutes. I need to teach him a lesson today!" Grace ordered.

Raymond stood by the hotel's floor-to-ceiling window, thinking, 'Carter hit Selena? No way.'

"Aunt Grace, maybe there's some misunderstanding?" Raymond suggested.

Grace shot back, "Penny's face is swollen with five clear finger marks. What kind of misunderstanding could there be? Carter has really let me down."

Far away in a bar, Carter sneezed amidst the deafening music, feeling a bit uneasy.

Raymond stayed calm and thought, 'Selena got slapped again?'

At that moment, Selena finally had the chance to speak and quickly took it. "Mrs. Montague, it wasn't Carter. Carter is good; he wouldn't hit me."

Grace's hand holding the phone stiffened. Was it not Carter?

"Are you afraid I'll punish him, so you're covering for him?" Grace asked.

"It really wasn't him," Selena replied.

"Then who hit you?" Grace pressed.

"My... my family," Selena stammered.

A trace of pity appeared in Grace's eyes. Knowing it wasn't Carter, she breathed a sigh of relief. "I'm relieved it wasn't him. Otherwise, I wouldn't let him off. This is my phone number. Save it. If Carter treats you badly, tell me anytime."

Selena hesitated. She and Carter were just pretending to be a couple, but now she had no chance to refuse Grace.

Grace hadn't hung up the phone yet.

"Raymond, that's all. I'm hanging up."

Selena was really worried that Raymond might say something to expose her and Carter, making the situation with Grace even more awkward.

But fortunately, Raymond said nothing.

With her face treated, Selena quickly stood up. "Mrs. Montague, I have some matters at home, so I'll head back first."

"Alright, if there's anything you can't handle at home, call me or tell Carter. You're his girlfriend; he should help you," Grace said.

Selena tugged at the corner of her mouth, feeling as though the lie was like a snowball, growing larger with every passing moment.

"Okay, thank you," Selena finally responded.

Selena got back in her car, sitting in the driver's seat, hesitating whether to tell Carter so he could resolve it early.

But when she called, no one answered.

Selena had to return to her apartment first.

Her apartment rarely had visitors, only Shelley occasionally came by, making it seem quiet and empty.

Selena opened her computer, edited the prepared plans into a document, and sent it over.

Raymond didn't reply, which Selena expected.

The next morning, Selena looked in the mirror, confirmed that the marks on her face had disappeared, and drove to Silver Bay University's Art Academy.

Silver Bay University's Art Academy was the highest academic hall for art in the country. Every year on this day, the school held an art exhibition, inviting various industry figures, including investors of Silver Bay University.

Selena parked her car and had just stepped out.

Lisa, wearing high heels and carrying a delicate bag, walked by with a young man about twenty-five years old.

When passing by Selena, Lisa suddenly stopped, raising an eyebrow. "Hey, it's you."

Selena frowned, not immediately recognizing who it was.

Lisa sneered, looking Selena up and down in her plain outfit, and took a step back. "What, you've gone as far as sleeping with Raymond, yet haven't gained the slightest advantage?"

She used her job to get with Raymond for the money. And look at her, still broke! Guess she wasn't so good at serving him.

Selena finally remembered; this was Lisa, whom she met at the hotel that day.

Selena smiled faintly, "Mr. Montague said it's a hassle to settle per session, planning to clear it all at the end of the year."

"You!" Lisa exclaimed with anger.

Wasn't this implying that Raymond was still interested in her and wanted to keep things going?

It was shameless!
