Chapter 1636 She Loves Him Extremely

The driver sat in the front, occasionally glancing at the rearview mirror.

It was not unusual for the two to be at odds, and when things got out of hand, they might even get physical.

He swallowed hard, feeling like the high-pressure environment would eventually crush him.

He had seen Philip at the Harper Group before. Back then, Benjamin disapproved of his relationship with Shelley, so Shelley had arranged for him to work at the Harper Group's lower levels. Unexpectedly, Philip's abilities were outstanding.

How outstanding? Within a month of joining the company, his boss had promoted him exceptionally.

Looking back now, it all felt like a dream because it happened so quickly.

Ann, sitting in the passenger seat, was sleeping uncomfortably. Her head hit the window, causing her to whimper in pain.

The car stopped at her place, and someone was already there to pick her up.

Sophia had been sent back earlier. Hugo was interested in her but didn't dare mess with a top-tier celebrity like Sophia.

Ann was a nobody. Even if she was wronged, no fans would stand up for her.

Ann was helped back to her place, still feeling dizzy. She didn't even have time to say goodbye to Shelley.

She threw up in the bathroom but couldn't get anything out.

Looking up at her reflection, she was startled by how much weight she had lost.

She wanted to take a shower, but her body felt too weak. The alcohol was still burning through her system, so she curled up on the bed and fell asleep.

The next day, she woke up with a terrible headache and a sharp pain in her stomach.

After eating a simple piece of bread, she headed to the office.

"Ronald, finalize the car endorsement with Austin and send the contract to the boss."

"Wasn't the spokesperson for this new electric car undecided?"

"We settled it last night." Ann sat in her office chair, still looking pale.

The contract was sent to the car company's headquarters, but they informed her that Hugo had already resigned.

Promises made by someone who had resigned didn't count.

Ann felt frustrated. After all, she had already drunk the alcohol and gone through such a harrowing experience last night.

She couldn't call the police. As the head of S.M Corporation, reporting it would tarnish her reputation, regardless of whether Hugo succeeded or not. In the eyes of the industry, her relationship with Hugo would be irreparably stained.

She rubbed her temples and pulled up the recording from last night, sending it to the current president of the car company's division.

The recording contained her conversation with Hugo, where he promised the endorsement contract if she drank.

The response came quickly.

[Sorry, Ms. White. Hugo was dismissed due to personal misconduct. Any promises he made are void. If your company's artist wants the endorsement, they can compete with other artists.]

Ann felt a sharp pain in her temple. Hugo was disgusting, but if he had resigned a day later, she would have secured the endorsement contract.

She lowered her head, resting her forehead on the desk, and took a deep breath.

The sharp pain in her stomach persisted, and her phone rang. It was a call from the police station.

"Ms. White, your mother wants to see you. The Reed family has decided not to pursue the poisoning incident. If you post bail, your mother can be released without charges."

Elara was already ruined, and the online backlash hadn't subsided. The Reed family chose not to pursue the matter, hoping Ann would drop the issue of Elara stealing Tan.

"I don't want to see her. Just follow the procedure."

She hung up and grabbed the trash can, vomiting again. But she hadn't eaten much recently, so she only threw up water.

In the afternoon, she received another call from an unknown number. This time, it was Brody.

"Ann, I got your mom out. You should come see her. She's not in good shape."

Ann's brow furrowed at the sound of his voice, her stomach churning even more.

She opened the drawer beside her, took a stomach pill, and was about to hang up when she heard Connie's voice. "Ann, I'm sorry. It was my fault."

Ann froze. How long had it been since she heard Connie speak like this?

Since she became an adult, all she could remember were Connie's insults and curses, as if she weren't her daughter.

But she was her biological daughter.

She lowered her eyelashes, not wanting to respond.

"I want to see you one more time. After that, I'm leaving. I finally realize your dad is unreliable."

Ann felt like she was hallucinating. Connie had always been someone who couldn't live without Otha.

No matter how worthless or cowardly Otha was, she loved him extremely.
