Chapter 370 I'm Already Married
Caterlington didn't want things to get too awkward, so he quickly threw a few more words Alan's way to lighten the mood.
Selena couldn't handle the snarky back-and-forth between Caterlington and Raymond, feeling like she was getting dragged into it.
She pretended to head to the restroom but actually slipped out to the hallway for some fresh air.
Lucas was hanging out nearby and, seeing her step out, quickly walked over. "Hey, here's some lemon water. Might help clear your head a bit?"
Selena hadn't really had much to drink, just a glass back in the private room.
But to stay sharp, she took the lemon water.
Lucas scratched his head, looking a bit awkward. "I really owe you for my promotion, and for this time. I don't even know how to thank you."
Selena finished the lemon water and was about to remind him of what she needed when she spotted Raymond out of the corner of her eye.
Raymond had used the excuse of going out for a smoke and was now strolling over with a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.
Selena quickly gave Lucas a knowing look.
Lucas caught on and immediately went into his usual routine for dealing with women. "Sweetheart, where should we go after this?"
As he said this, Raymond walked right past them, heading straight to the smoking area on the balcony.
Of course, he longed for something to happen between him and Selena.
But she clearly wasn't into him.
If only he had Philip's looks.
Selena hadn't expected Lucas to be so smooth with women. She even felt that when Raymond passed by, his vibe was so cold it could cut.
Her skin and heart felt like they'd been pricked.
The door to the smoking area closed.
Selena let out a heavy sigh of relief and signaled to Lucas that she was heading back in.
Lucas nodded, not wanting to stick around any longer.
He wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt like Raymond was giving him the evil eye.
Raymond leaned his elbow on the railing, his face even colder in the swirling smoke.
Staring outside, he flicked the ash off his cigarette with practiced ease.
This small balcony was a lot like the one at the villa. That night, she had been on his waist, calling him "honey" over and over again.
His fingers tightened around the cigarette, and he irritably stubbed it out in the ashtray.
But now, separated by a thick glass door, she and her husband were comforting each other.
It felt like he was just a thief who had stolen a moment with her in the dead of night.
How amusing!
Raymond's eyes took on a dangerous glint.
So, what was all her effort to get close to him before?
He hated being played with. If he wanted her, he'd have her until he was done.
He lit another cigarette.
As dinner wrapped up, Raymond came back.
Selena caught a faint whiff of smoke on him.
Everyone was getting ready to leave, but he hung back and told John to take Olivia away first.
Selena, trying to keep up appearances, started to head towards Lucas.
But her phone buzzed. She checked it and saw a message from Raymond: [Come back.]
Selena figured he wanted to talk about the Apex Holdings Group issue.
Taking advantage of no one paying attention, she slipped back into the elevator and returned to the private room.
The room was already cleaned up, the table even disinfected again. They were quick.
Selena saw Raymond sitting in his original spot, his fingers slowly spinning his phone.
"Raymond." She called out, standing still.
Raymond glanced at her, put away his phone, and walked over.
When he got close, he bent slightly, scrutinizing her face.
Selena had rushed up, and a few drops of sweat had formed on her nose. Her eyes were puzzled but clear as she looked at him.
Her eyes had a full curve, exuding a delicate charm.
At this moment, they were too close, and Selena felt suffocated under his presence.
Her heart inexplicably sped up.
Just as she was about to speak, he lifted her chin.
He lowered his head, his lips unhesitatingly coming down on hers.
Selena's pupils shrank in fear, and just as she was about to push him away, his lips moved to her ear.
"I'll handle Bert's matter for you."
There was no need to say more; they were both adults, no need to play innocent at this point.
Selena's fingertips curled slightly, and she turned her head away, her lips trembling a bit. "Raymond, I'm already married."
Her mind was in chaos.
The Apex Holdings Group issue did need to be resolved quickly, but she had never thought Raymond wanted this kind of deal.
The surge of pride in that instant felt like a sharp thorn piercing her heart.
