Chapter 148 Reid Had Been a Jerk First
Alex's change in attitude didn't bother Selena one bit.
As she stepped out of the hotel and headed to her car, her phone buzzed. It was Caterlington.
"Penny, I sent you a number. This renovation company is pretty good, but they're Reid's competition. If you go with them, you'll totally piss off Reid," Caterlington warned.
"My deal with Mr. Wright is done for good," Selena replied.
Since Reid had been a jerk first, Selena didn't feel any need to stay loyal.
Plus, Reid was still trying to block others from working with her.
Caterlington chuckled on the other end, tempted to ask about her and Raymond but decided against it.
Selena hung up and checked her messages.
Sure enough, it was Reid's competitor. When she first picked Reid, this other company had tried to win her over.
She gave them a call, and to her surprise, they loved her design. Plus, it was for Raymond's house. Even though the designer would get most of the credit, a good promo would make the renovation team famous too.
After a quick chat, she sent over the construction drawings and plans. The conversation went smoothly.
Raymond's house couldn't wait any longer.
With that sorted, Selena drove towards Ashbourne Manor.
Just as she was about to cross an intersection, a car cut her off, forcing her to stop.
This wasn't the first time she'd dealt with something like this. As she opened her car door, the other driver got out.
He was a middle-aged guy with a simple, honest look. "Sorry, ma'am."
Before Selena could say anything, the guy suddenly pressed a cloth with a strong smell over her nose.
Caught off guard, Selena inhaled some of it, making her feel weak and powerless.
Right before she blacked out, she knew this had to be Reid's doing.
If she worked with his competitor, Reid would be in a tough spot.
As she was losing consciousness, she managed to make a phone call.
In her panic, she didn't know who she dialed.
The call connected, but there was no response from the other end, just sounds from Selena's side. "Doing business with Mr. Wright was a favor to you, and you pull this stunt!"
Selena was dragged out. Her legs gave out, and the guy roughly pulled her to another vehicle.
Her phone fell to the ground, still showing an ongoing call.
The guy cursed, picked it up, and slapped Selena. "Who did you call? No one's saving you tonight! You better behave!"
Raymond heard the guy's nasty words on the other end and immediately called John. "Check the hotel surveillance for when Penny left."
John got the order and quickly mobilized the hotel staff.
The hotel was part of the Montague Group, so they moved fast. In less than five minutes, they had the full surveillance of Selena driving away.
Raymond headed straight downstairs, and John had already brought the car around.
The red dot indicating the kidnappers' location was slowly moving on the map; clearly, the kidnappers didn't expect anyone to come for Selena so quickly.
After all, Reid had told them Selena was a nobody with no connections.
Reid had paid them a million bucks, thinking it was a sure thing.
