Chapter 395 Do You Want it Again Tonight?
"I'll be your date!" Her voice lit up with excitement.
Raymond lowered his gaze and set his coffee down. "Olivia, I'm not going to an auction."
In other words, he didn't need her tagging along.
Olivia's face went pale. The conversation had hit a wall, so she scrambled for an excuse.
"I get it. Is there an issue with the overseas project that needs your attention?"
Raymond nodded and opened his laptop.
He shot a message to Selena: [Tomorrow, come with me abroad.]
Selena got the message while visiting Lucas in the hospital. Lucas was insisting on being discharged, so she was handling the paperwork to take him home.
"Are you sure you don't want to stay in the hospital a bit longer?"
Lucas was an innocent victim this time, all because of her.
"No need, Penny. It's just some minor injuries, and I just got promoted. Last time, I lost Raymond's cufflinks in the private room, and Alan's not too happy with me. I need to step up my game."
His face was swollen as he handed back the card.
"Here's the remaining twenty-three thousand dollars."
"Lucas, keep it."
Lucas hesitated. He really needed the money and loved it. With it, he could improve his life and support several women.
In the end, he accepted.
Selena drove him home. Lucas's place was pretty remote, and the lights were dimmer than in the city.
Selena saw a kid with crutches waiting at his door, probably his sister.
When Lucas got out, the kid hobbled over and, seeing his face, burst into tears. He picked her up and comforted her.
At that moment, Selena saw Raymond's message.
She bit her lip and replied: [I don't think I'm your secretary.]
She still owed him eight times, but that didn't include tagging along for other stuff.
When Raymond saw the message, his face immediately darkened, and his mood turned icy.
Olivia was still there and noticed the sharp look in his eyes.
She quickly jumped at the chance.
"Raymond, are you really not going to the auction? It's a big deal, and there might be something grandma likes."
"I'll go."
"Can I come with you?"
"Sure." His tone was indifferent as he irritably closed the chat with Selena.
Olivia got the answer she wanted and quickly left.
Raymond took out his phone and called Selena. At that moment, Selena was taking Lucas's medication out of the car, all for external injuries.
The little girl in Lucas's arms was still crying.
When Selena saw Raymond's call, her back instinctively stiffened. She pressed the answer button, and his voice came through.
"With your husband?" he asked nonchalantly.
Selena sensed danger in his brief words and quickly denied it. "No."
But just as she finished speaking, Lucas spoke up, "Penny..."
Raymond naturally heard it and chuckled. "He's discharged?"
"Raymond, I..."
Before she could finish, the little girl's crying came through again.
Lucas was still comforting her. "Don't cry. Don't cry."
Selena immediately started the car, nodded to Lucas as a farewell, and drove a bit further before asking.
"Do you need me tonight?"
The surroundings were very quiet now.
Raymond leaned back in his chair, not speaking.
Selena didn't dare to hang up the phone on her own.
"Penny, do you have a child?" His tone was somewhat confused and ethereal.
"No."
Raymond was referring to the child's crying earlier.
But mentioning children suddenly reminded him that he had never used protection with her.
Selena said flatly, "I always remember to take birth control pills."
As soon as she finished speaking, he chuckled lightly, but his tone was cold. "You're quite sensible."
