Chapter 347 The Fair Family on the Brink of Bankruptcy

Selena swung by Ashbourne Manor today. It had been a few days since she last checked in on Max, and she was worried about how his surgical wound was healing up.

Fiona lit up when she saw Selena, her eyes crinkling with joy. "I just took Max for a walk," she said.

With Raymond's return still up in the air, Fiona didn't dare let Max roam free, so he was stuck in the big room at the back every day.

As soon as Selena walked in, Max recognized her footsteps and started barking like crazy. Her heart ached. She squatted down and gave his head a good rub.

She wanted to take Max to the Rose Garden, but even though the neighborhood issues were sorted, Lillian still lived on her floor. If Max barked even once, Lillian would probably report it to the property management, causing another mess.

So, Max had to stay put.

Selena comforted him for over half an hour before taking him for a stroll in the garden.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Beatrice and Alice showed up, thinking that after the morning's drama with Arthur and Victoria, the bodyguards would be gone.

But nope, the bodyguards were still there.

Beatrice was fuming, and Alice's eyes were full of spite. They couldn't wait any longer.

"I'll go check on Kenny first. He's seriously hurt," Beatrice said.

Alice rolled her eyes. Even now, all Beatrice could think about was Kenny. She snorted in disdain.

Beatrice felt humiliated but was genuinely worried about Kenny. He had been with her for years. She hurried to his ward, only to find it empty.

Startled, she immediately asked the doctor for his whereabouts.

The doctor answered, "You mean Kenny? Someone discharged him three hours ago. His injuries were severe; we advised him to rest more."

At that moment, Kenny was already being smuggled onto a ship by the Fair family company's receptionist. Her relative worked in overseas shipping and could hide Kenny among the cargo. No ID needed, so no one could trace him.

Kenny hadn't expected his mistress to have such connections, so he quickly agreed and handed over $300,000 upfront. Before boarding, he ditched all his contact info. He didn't love Beatrice; he was just using her for money.

Over the years, Beatrice had given him millions. He had sold many properties and, with inside help from Apex Holdings Group, secured a $700 million deal. The Fair family would end up compensating $1.4 billion, and with $14 million in hand, he could live comfortably overseas.

Beatrice was still searching for Kenny, but his phone was unreachable. Then a senior executive from Apex Holdings Group called, asking about the progress of the Fair family's paint production. The tone was completely different from before the contract was signed, now full of arrogance.

Beatrice began to sense something was wrong. Then the senior executives of the Fair family's company called. Because the company suddenly demanded overtime for paint production without increasing wages, the workers were striking, and the situation was escalating. The entire company was in chaos.

Within ten minutes, Beatrice received seven or eight calls, all about the workers' strike. Kenny had been managing everything recently, and now that he was unreachable, everyone looked to Beatrice for direction and subtly inquired about James's health.

Beatrice's heart raced, and she frantically called Kenny. But he didn't answer. Her hands and feet went weak, and her lips trembled.

Alice saw her in this state asked anxiously, "What's wrong?"

"Kenny is missing. Do you think it has something to do with his attack? Could he have been kidnapped?"

Alice was impatient. "Is this the time to think about Kenny? Dad is about to wake up. Are we really going to be kicked out? Deal with him first, then worry about Kenny."

But Beatrice's mind was consumed with thoughts of Kenny. Seeing her useless, Alice grabbed a bottle of poison she had prepared in advance and went to find the nurse responsible for changing James's medication.

The nurse was holding a tray, chatting with a colleague. The medication to be changed was on the tray.

Alice stole a nurse's uniform and walked straight up to the nurse. "I'm here to change James' medication today."

The nurse looked up at her. "But I've always been the one to do it, and the family specifically requested no changes."

Alice had already scoped out the medication bottles on the nurse's tray. Taking advantage of the nurses' lapse in concentration, she swapped one of the identical bottles. "Oh, I see. Well, you go ahead then."
