Chapter 181 Caught in the Act

Grace had the final say here.

Carter was racking his brain on how to get Lillian to skip tomorrow, but Lillian, always on edge because of her family's money problems, was super sensitive around him. One wrong word, and she'd probably overthink it.

He couldn't figure out a good plan.

Time flew by, and before he knew it, it was the next day.

Selena woke up on the couch, feeling a bit better. Her fever was gone, but her throat still felt scratchy.

She got up and heated some water. Thinking about last night, she couldn't help but facepalm. Was her luck really that bad this year?

She also thought about Grace. She didn't get a chance to visit last night, but she definitely had to check on her today.

Just as Selena picked up her cup, the doorbell rang. It was Lillian, bringing a light breakfast.

Seeing that Selena didn't look as sick, Lillian let out a sigh of relief.

"You had a high fever last night. I made some soup this morning; you should drink some," Lillian said, glancing around.

Last night, she told Raymond that Selena's husband was always out early and back late, but Lillian hadn't actually seen him.

Lillian asked, "Penny, is your husband super busy with work? You had such a high fever last night, and he didn't come to take care of you."

Selena knew she needed to sort out the husband issue fast. She needed to find a guy to show up in front of these people. She couldn't keep dodging the question; someone would figure it out eventually.

Shelley should have a solution for this. With her wide network, she must know a few reliable guys.

Selena explained, "His job requires a lot of travel."

Lillian didn't press further and just told her to drink the soup.

Selena thanked her and had just picked up the bowl when Lillian's phone rang. Seeing her face light up, Selena knew it was Carter calling.

Carter said he had a surprise for Lillian and asked her to come out now.

Lillian was a bit miffed because he had asked her to go back last night. But hearing about the surprise, her eyes lit up, and she went out.

Not long after Lillian left, Selena planned to wash the bowl and return it to her. But the doorbell rang again.

She thought it was Lillian and went to open the door.

But standing outside were Carter and Grace, which made her heart race. She was at a loss for words.

Grace looked better and, seeing Selena's pale face, grabbed her hand with concern. "Penny, were you scared by what happened yesterday? Carter doesn't know how to comfort people, so I brought him over to check on you."

Selena's gaze fell on Carter, who blinked.

Selena had no idea what Carter was doing. He already knew she was married. Didn't he think he might run into her husband by coming over?

Carter was taking a gamble, and luckily, Selena's husband wasn't home.

Carter had no say in front of Grace. He had introduced Selena to Grace not long ago, and now he had a new girlfriend. If Grace found out, she might send him back to the Montague Group for some tough training.

Carter had only gotten out of the Montague Group because of Selena and definitely didn't want to go back.

So he had to keep up the act and wait for the right moment to confess to Grace.

Grace, although part of the upper class in Silver Bay City, was down-to-earth. She looked at Selena like she was a younger relative.

Grace was very pleased with Selena. Knowing that Selena wasn't really liked by her family, she felt even more protective of her.

She held Selena's hand and then grabbed Carter's hand, giving it a satisfied pat. "Carter, you need to treat Penny well. You're still immature and need someone to keep you in line."

Before she finished speaking, the elevator door had already opened, but Selena, Carter, and Grace were all preoccupied and didn't notice.

At that moment, they heard the elevator door close and looked up, only to see Lillian, who looked shocked.
