Chapter 254 A Flicker of Emotion
Selena couldn't get up right away; her lower abdomen was throbbing with a dull pain.
She felt a chill all over, and her vision was all fuzzy.
Yep, it was that time of the month.
She'd been swamped lately. And after crashing in wet clothes all night in Ridgefield, this period was hitting her hard.
The pain was so bad she felt like puking. But she had booked the hotel in a rush and only had a change of clothes with her.
With a pale face and shaky hands, she called the front desk, hoping someone could bring her what she needed.
It was six in the morning, and the hotel's service was top-notch. They quickly brought her the sanitary pads she needed.
Selena dragged her tired body to the door. The attendant saw her pale face, even her colorless lips, and asked, "Ma'am, do you need any medication?"
Selena usually had meds for her cramps, but they were all back at the Rose Garden.
"Painkillers! Please get me two pills."
She clutched her stomach, feeling like she might pass out any second.
The attendant didn't waste any time and immediately went to find some painkillers.
But this was a hotel; they didn't have that stuff on hand.
The attendant had to run to a nearby pharmacy. When she returned to the top floor and stepped out of the elevator, she bumped into Raymond heading to the office.
Raymond noticed the painkillers in her hand, a flicker of something in his eyes. When he saw the attendant heading to Selena's room, he hesitated before stepping into the elevator.
John called out, "Sir?"
Raymond finally walked in.
Inside the room, Selena's hands were shaking as she took the painkillers.
The pain in her lower abdomen was intense, making her break out in a cold sweat and feel chills all over.
She couldn't go to the hospital today, so she called Shelley, asking her to check on her dad at the hospital.
Shelley heard her weak voice.
"Selena, are you okay?"
"I'm alright. Could you please check on my dad at the hospital? Beatrice and the others are there, but I just don't feel at ease. Or send a couple of the Harper family's bodyguards over. Once I recover, I'll treat you to a meal."
Shelley was a bit annoyed. "You need to rest. And don't worry about the meal; I can cover myself. I'll send my bodyguards over to keep watch. No one is allowed to visit the ICU until you get there, okay?"
Selena felt a warmth in her heart, clutching her stomach. "Okay."
"Selena, does Raymond not know about your dad's situation? Are you really planning to keep it from him?"
"Yes. I want to sleep now."
Shelley didn't say anything more.
Selena was drenched in sweat as if she had been pulled out of water.
She forced herself to get up, endured the intense pain, quickly took a shower to clean herself up, and then lay down on the bed.
She didn't dare turn on the air conditioning and even covered herself with a thin blanket.
She slept until evening.
At eight in the evening, Raymond returned to the hotel. As he swiped his card to enter his room, he instinctively glanced towards Selena's room.
His long fingers paused, but he didn't say anything.
After taking a shower, he stood by the floor-to-ceiling window and took an overseas conference call.
After hanging up, the front desk called to ask if he needed a late-night snack.
Since this room was exclusively for Raymond, with meals prepared by a dedicated staff, and he had returned late today, someone called to check.
Raymond paused for a few seconds and said, "Send it to the other guest on this floor."
Soon, an attendant pushed a food cart to Selena's door.
He knocked politely, but there was no response.
After knocking for over ten minutes, the front desk told Raymond no one was answering next door.
Raymond frowned and called Selena.
Selena's phone, left in the living room, lit up with the caller ID "Mr. Montague."
But there was no sound, so the person lying in the bedroom didn't hear it.
Raymond took a spare key card from the lobby manager and opened the room door.
The attendant carefully pushed the food cart inside and left.
Raymond glanced around the living room; no one was there, but the phone was on the table, so she must be inside.
He walked towards the bedroom.
