Chapter 245 You Didn't Take Good Care of Raymond
Selena got a call from the hospital at 3 AM. James had taken a nasty fall down the stairs and was in critical condition.
Her exhaustion vanished in an instant. She grabbed the coat next to her and threw it on.
She'd been to this hospital before and had talked to the attending doctor, so the doc took it upon himself to call her.
When Selena got to the hospital, she saw Beatrice sitting alone in the hallway, looking oddly calm.
Was she imagining things?
Beatrice's eyes widened when she saw Selena.
What was Selena doing here?
Selena walked over, her voice icy. "Before I went to Ridgefield, didn't I bring him to the hospital? You know he has liver cancer, right? He should've stayed here a few more days. Why'd you let him go back?"
Beatrice was flustered but remembered Kenny's words and stood tall.
"Are you questioning me? Do you even get how much your dad has sacrificed for this family? If the Montague family hadn't messed with the project, would he be in this state? It's your fault for not keeping Raymond happy! Because of the company issues, he came home secretly. I gave the servants a break, so no one knew he was home. When I found him, the floor was covered in blood. If I'd been any later, he would've been dead!"
Beatrice sneered, looking Selena up and down.
"And you still have the nerve to question me!"
Selena sat quietly on a nearby chair.
Beatrice's fingers trembled slightly, still unsure how Selena had arrived so quickly.
She was thinking that if James could be saved later, she would definitely pull out his oxygen tube.
Only then could she eliminate all future troubles.
She went all in, or she didn't go at all.
Selena closed her eyes, just hoping the door to the emergency room would open soon.
Although she had many unpleasant moments with James, he was still her father and had been her companion for so many years.
After her mother passed away, she and James depended on each other.
If it weren't for Beatrice's appearance, their relationship would have remained good.
Selena's eyes reddened, but she held back her tears.
Beatrice, on the other hand, kept observing Selena and only relaxed when she saw that Selena didn't suspect anything.
James must not be saved.
Otherwise, they would be finished.
The resuscitation continued until 7 AM the next day. Only then did the red letters go out, and James was pushed out.
Beatrice immediately stood up, her voice trembling. "How is my honey? You must do your best."
"Although James has been resuscitated, he still needs to be observed in the ICU for a few days. If he doesn't make it through, then..."
The rest of the words were left unsaid, but everyone understood.
Beatrice almost fainted, her legs giving way as she fell to one side, supported by a nearby nurse. "We know you're very upset, but please hold on."
Seeing Beatrice's strong reaction, Selena initially thought she couldn't bear the shock.
Beatrice's face was full of panic, the last bit of color draining from her face.
"You must save him. We'll pay whatever it takes."
Someone helped Beatrice to another room to rest, while James was taken to the ICU.
Selena stood outside the ICU, not daring to blink.
A nurse noticed her flushed cheeks and touched her forehead.
"Miss, you have a fever. Sit down for a bit. I'll get you some fever medicine."
Selena lowered her head and took out some medicine from her bag. "Thank you. Just a glass of water will do."
The nurse quickly brought her some warm water.
"Actually, staying here won't help. It's best if you go back and rest. We'll keep you updated on his condition."
Selena indeed felt dizzy, but she was very worried about James's condition. She searched for hotels near the hospital, but the closest one was the one where Raymond had booked a room.
