Chapter 1447 Bittersweet Feelings

Ann's eyes drifted back to Paul. More and more people were chatting him up.

He held his glass casually, not drinking, but everyone toasting him had to finish theirs.

He was the center of attention, while she was just a nobody.

They were from different worlds, and she was foolishly trying to force a connection.

Lucille patted her shoulder and left.

Ann stood there for a few minutes before hearing Emily's sharp voice.

"Why is it you again, you bitch? Why can't you just disappear? Did you track Paul's whereabouts and follow him here on purpose?"

Emily was wearing a pink gown tonight, a look that should have been gentle, but her words were anything but.

"Ann, right? Aren't you just a piece of trash?"

The same group of women surrounded Emily.

Ann recognized a few of them. They had been giving her trouble at recent parties, but she always chose to stay silent.

She knew her place. How could she go head-to-head with these wealthy people? Besides, she didn't want to cause trouble for her company.

Emily raised her chin, her eyes full of arrogance.

"Ann, come with us!"

They wouldn't make a scene in public. Emily was cautious, fearing that Paul might see Ann being humiliated and suddenly act all protective. That would be a disaster.

So, when she bullied Ann, it was always in a secluded spot, away from prying eyes.

Ann was a coward, letting Emily and her friends torment her.

Like now, they dragged Ann to the women's restroom and started slapping her.

"Bitch! Stay away from Paul!"

"Emily, that slap wasn't hard enough. Watch me."

The sound of slaps echoed, accompanied by their laughter.

It was like school bullying, and tormenting Ann gave them pleasure.

Ann's cheeks were swollen, her carefully prepared suit was torn, and Emily even had someone take photos.

"That's enough for today. Ann, do you think hiding in the company's top floor means I can't touch you? If you keep bothering Paul, I'll hit you every time I see you!"

Emily's face was full of glee as she tossed her phone.

"If you ever dare to sleep with Paul, I'll share these disgraceful photos with everyone, so they all know what a lowly woman Selena's assistant is."

Ann sat on the floor, silent.

She knew that the more she resisted, the more excited they would get.

Staying quiet meant less suffering.

In this circle, who dared to challenge someone like Emily, the daughter of a powerful family? She had no choice but to accept her fate.

Emily left with her head held high, and the restroom fell silent.

Ann slowly stood up, feeling a sharp pain in her ankle.

She realized she had hurt her ankle when she was pushed down.

She walked to the mirror and saw her swollen face. Her mind was quiet as she silently reassessed her feelings for Paul. If a hundred was a perfect score, after being hurt so many times, her feelings had dropped to ninety.

She skillfully took a mask from her bag and put it on, then sprayed her ankle.

After doing all this, she forced herself to open the restroom door.

But as she reached the corner of the hallway, she froze.

A few feet away stood Paul. He probably didn't know she was there. He held a cigarette between his fingers, leaning back, exuding a mix of sharpness and laziness. No one knew what he was thinking.

A woman dressed provocatively walked by and deliberately brushed against him.

His expression changed instantly, and he pushed her away without mercy.

"Get lost!"

The woman was startled, her legs trembling, and she left crying.

Ann stood at the corner, unmoving, feeling a strange sense of comfort.

At least he wasn't just mean to her; he was mean to every woman who threw themselves at him.

'That behavior deservesfive points,' Ann thought pathetically.

She felt both happy and sad at the same time.
