Chapter 378 Raymond Could Help Her
James, looking pale, set the document down and glanced over to see Selena standing nearby.
He reached for his cane to try and stand up.
But his hands were shaking so much, he just couldn't do it.
Selena was rooted in the spot. Not too long ago, James could still walk, but now even using a cane was a struggle.
She opened her mouth but couldn't find the words.
James just looked at her, then slowly sat back down, placing the cane beside him in defeat. The lines around his eyes seemed to deepen.
Already in his fifties with a head full of grey hair, Selena could hardly bear to look at him.
"Selena, the Fair family is done. I'm sorry, there's nothing left to give you."
As James said this, his shoulders shook.
Selling the Fair Group and assets barely covered the debts; he really had nothing left for Selena.
Selena walked closer and saw Max lying at James's feet.
She sat down.
James, with trembling hands, placed the documents on the table.
"A lifetime of hard work, and this is how it ends."
Selena lowered her eyelashes and said softly, "Dad. Take some time to visit Mom's grave. You haven't been there in years."
James stiffened, his mouth twitching, his whole being soaked in bitterness.
"I'll go tomorrow."
But given James's current health, a few hours' drive might be too much for him.
Selena thought about how he only had a year left to live due to his cancer and was still anxious about the company's issues, feeling a pang in her heart.
James was silent for a long time before cautiously advising. "The Fair family is going bankrupt, Selena. Don't foolishly divorce Raymond, or you'll have nothing left. William likes you. As long as you want to be Raymond's wife, no one will drive you away."
He sensed that he didn't have much time left.
Selena's eyes reddened as she found this topic too sad to discuss. "I had the servants disinfect the villa. Beatrice's things have been donated. I'll figure out the company's issues."
James's fingertips trembled. "Are you going to ask William? That's 1.4 billion dollars. Even if he likes you, he can't possibly give that much. Don't be foolish; it will only lower his impression of you."
After saying this, he suddenly coughed heavily a few times, then spat out a mouthful of blood.
Selena was startled and quickly handed him a tissue.
"Raymond promised me he would solve it." She wiped the blood from the corner of James's mouth with the tissue. "Look, don't stress about the company."
"Raymond doesn't care about you. Why would he help? If he did, he wouldn't have made things so tough for the Fair family."
He even messed with the Fair family's business, leading to this whole mess.
Basically, he had a hand in pushing them to this point.
James finally caught his breath and leaned back on the sofa, his eyes dim.
"Raymond's not the kind of guy who loves. Selena, you can rely on him, but don't fall for him. I've figured that much out."
People who hold that kind of power rarely have a heart.
"Dad, I'll take you back to the hospital. The Apex Holdings Group issue will be sorted out soon."
James was skeptical, but he knew he couldn't do much anymore.
From the moment she walked in, Selena had stayed calm.
James knew their falling out was his fault.
The Selena who used to cry for her mom had grown up, and she didn't need to rely on him again.
He only realized it now.
Selena had the driver take James back to the hospital. Given his health, he couldn't hold on much longer.
But just half an hour later, the driver called. "Miss Fair, someone from Apex Holdings Group came to the hospital causing trouble. Mr. Fair has been taken to the emergency room again. They somehow heard about Beatrice's affair and kept repeating it in front of Mr. Fair, even asking him to get a DNA test for Alice. And he has vomited a lot of blood."
Apex Holdings Group was really crossing the line!
Hearing this, Selena, sich with apprehension, immediately headed to the hospital, but as soon as she left the Fair family gate, she was blocked by several cars from Apex Holdings Group.
A burly man got out of a car and shouted at her, "You can see James, but you'll have to spend a few nights with Mr. Thompson first."
Selena gripped the steering wheel tightly, torn between anger and worry.
Her phone rang; it was an unfamiliar number, probably Bert.
Selena ignored it and called Raymond instead.
The call went through, but he hung up in a second.
She had no other choice now. If the Apex Holdings Group issue wasn't resolved, James would be in trouble, and their people would keep harassing them. In twenty days, the Fair Group would also belong to Apex Holdings Group.
Only Raymond could help her, even if it meant swallowing her pride.
At least, Raymond could help her.
